    Don’t you just love it……

When the customer says I really need to for a certain day, then you wait for ages for them to pick it up!

Or, when they say I really need it for tomorrow, so you say, that’s ok, but the postage for next day is £10′ and they reply standard post is ok!

Yep, know exactly what you mean.

A lot of customers out there expect to pay for something one day and turn up the next. They forget that we don’t just ‘stick something in an envelope’ and that we have to make/personalise the item, package it up safely etc.

My pet hates are those with a fixed deadline – wedding, going abroad, an event or fair – with 3 or 4 days to go they buy it first and then say ‘I need this for Saturday, can you guarantee this?’ You check the order and lo and behold, they’ve chosen the standard delivery option. Personally if I’m desperate for a delivery, I’d rather pay that bit extra and have the peace of mind.

Although to be fair, occasionally you do get those that are happy to pay for a premium service and they at least tell you before purchasing. A few weeks ago a buyer only wanted a small item from me, 3 quid or so, nothing much. But this was a Friday and he desperately had to have it on Saturday so paid over a tenner for guaranteed Saturday delivery!

Know exactly what you mean, this morning we had a job in Edinburgh to do for £1200. big customer, repeat business, etc but they called needing the job very urgent, we charged extra because of it was so urgent. but this is the third time in 2 weeks we have had to cancel install of graphics due to something happening in their place… and we get the "oh can you leave it a couple of days, sorry!" :headbang2:

Worked most of the day yesterday,(Holey Catholic Sunday!:D ) missed a family outing, to let a ‘good customer’ out of a hole with a new truck. He wanted to fit it last night.
Graphics still sitting in office here! 🙄

    Happens all the time.

Was in Aberdeen on a Saturday doing a 3rd party fitting that "MUST be fitted as directors coming in from overseas".

Turn up only to find that the walls were plasterboard with a large space behind, not stone (as we were assured) so incapable of supporting the 45kg glass panel with the 4 piddly standoffs we were given.

Half way through the ‘find a solution’ discussions we get a phone call from a good client in Dundee "can you come before 3pm as we’ve a car going out and one of the valeters has damaged the door pillar vinyl"

Blast back and nobody knows where the car is…half hour later "Oh, we just let the customer take it…sorry".

So two aborted / non-jobs on the same day that I wasn’t meant to be working anyway.

    _______________

Another occasion we’d given the composite panels for a 20m long fascia to the customer to transport in his van to Fort William so we could just take a car rather than our van. Assured that he would be there waiting for us to arrive at 9am.

Him: 10am "Just leaving Dundee", Noon "Just about to leave Dundee",
2pm "Just putting a few extra things in the van", 4pm "I’m on my way"

Turns up at 7pm…in the dark (we’ve been sitting around / playing pool all day)…and to top it all off, his son gave us the sizes and it was a foot too short.

    ___________

"Arrrgh, I need the signs up in 2 days"…we pull off a near miracle by working stupid hours and deadlines to fit it into a full schedule and then their shop sits unopened for the next couple of weeks. – Get at least one of these a month.

    Too many more to mention!

On the other hand, I have one customer who e-mailed me early last week wanting 32 A2 5mm Foam Core boards printing… Could they send the artwork over Friday PM, and have them delivered Monday AM.

No problem at all, but I’d have to charge more as it would involve working over the weekend.

No hesitation from the customer. The whole job went rather smoothly.

Just with the remaining 99.99%of our customers were the same!
