Hi all, this ones a classic and had me fuming on saturday morning.

Ive been waiting since xmas to fit this lorry. Few days ago the customer said oh i forgot to tell you theres a small sticker on the side that needs removing. So i turn up and this is the small sticker . I wasnt best pleased, mainly because id left my lunch box at home.

Anyway, i hit it as normal with the heat gun and its like nothing ive seen before, coming off in fingernail sized pieces and leaving all glue behind. It was actually crystal etch. After 30 mins and realising this is an a 4-6 hour headache i spoke to him about time and money. He said he would take it off while im doing the other side :smiles: . 15 mins later he pops round and has given up so i suggested leaving it on and going over the top. yep that will do.

Any ideas on how to get something this difficult off from a vehicle? obviously scrapping is not an option.

Working outside in what looks like very cold temperatures will work against you.

I found a steamer to be awesome at removing stubborn vinyl , it gets heat into the panel, rather than just warming the surface.

Still very annoying when the ‘forget’ to tell you about it though.

Yep, Reflective vinyl off will do the job but it man not work straight away. We found that if you put about 3 coats on over a few hours and return the next day it will just flake off and you wont believe that only yesterday it was coming off by the mm.

Be carefull of the paint though. If it looks as though the paint is ‘ghosty’ then dont use it as it will eat into the paint. 🙁

Thanks for the tips guys i will try them in the future. It was a bit nippy david, -15c but i was working indoors and the vehicle had warmed up all night. The graphics were around 10 yrs old in harsh conditions. Never seen etch on a vehicle before tho maybe thats the main problem.
