    Hi,

Could someone just give me a pointer as to if im charging about right for the following job?

4ft x 2.2ft correx sign (2 sheets glued together for strength)
Has been cut to custom shape
    Covered in green vinyl
    And 2 colour lettering

in all about 3 metres of vinyl
    i was thinking about £35?
sorry to ask a pricing question but im unsure of a fair price as when i compare it to builders boards etc. the difference doesnt seem relative!!

    thanks

I did the pound conversion thing, and what I’d charge came out to about £30, but I think that with all the custom things you’ve done, you’re right on target.
I think your cost of living is a bit higher than here.
Or do it for £30 and ask if they’ll throw in a Christmas tree!

Humble opinion, but £35 sounds a tad cheap. I can guarentee it doesn’t look like a bit of correx and some vinyl now you’ve done it, and cutting it to shape will have taken some time as well.

I would’ve charged about £60 – £70 for something like that, but its all relative to where you are and how you approach it with the customer I guess.

Too cheap… I tend to work on £10 per mtr vinyl then price of board….2 pieces so I would have quoted around £50-£55 plus the dreaded…..

    HI

I worked that spec out to be around the £50 mark. It would seem alot of effort for less.

    all the best

thanks for all the advice think ill add a bit!!! one of those customers that wanted a correx sign for nothing, they suggested a single correx board however at that size i thought it would bend so doubled it up as Rob suggested.

For future reference if the flutes were to run horizontal on this sign would it bend if a post was fitted to the back, the entire height?

    cheers

Correx isn’t going to last forever! But if the flutes are horizontal you should be OK, 1000’s of estate agents can’t be wrong can they? Scrub that last thought 😉

    Hi dtg

I too would have gone with the price that Dewi gave. That sounds about right.

Glad you’ve said that Lee, I was starting to worry that my recent price increases had gone a tad too far  Scary thing is, locally I’ve been branded expensive, but twice as many ppl are coming through the doors than when I was cheaper…. is it me or does that seem a bit Magoo? 😕

although the sheets are doubled up mate, did you remember to run one with flutes running verticle and one with flutes running horizontal when sticking together?
this would eliminate any popping that occurs when you run the flutes with the post. infact, if you know its going on a single post, its best to run them both horizontal.

regarding price, ide say its a bit low too mate. although the materials dont cost much, there is allot of time invloved in making them.

Do you charge VAT on your prices Dewi??

Looking at the work you do I think you charge a fair price. You use a lot more colours and layers than we do for a lot of the run of the mill stuff and I think your stuff is really eyecatching, but if we put stuff like that for our customers as a proof they seem to go for the cheapest most basic option.

I saw the van you did today for £150.. round here there are people charging £60 for very similar.. mind you they only get 3 year vinyl and plenty of bubbles from what I have seen. We would have probably charged abot £100 for that van using Mac Tac 9800 series… Don’t get me wrong I don’t think you are over charging at all but prices do sometimes depend on the area in which you are working… Hope that makes sense and does not offend..

I don’t charge VAT as of yet, although I probably will have to, just waiting til the last possible moment (me no like VAT 🙁 )

I do alot of standard work, things I don’t post up as its run of the mill stuff. I post things I haven’t tried before more often than not, or jobs where I like what I’ve done and I’d like to see what others think. Its just that I get alot of free reign with my work more often than not, so I let my imagination go a little. I’m often reminded by Mrs Dewi that I should design more commercially rather than as arty as I can be. Can’t help myself though, I like colours *hair*

Price wise I see what you’re saying. There will always be ppl around who will do a job like that for next to nothing, for some reason they believe it will get them more work 😕 £60 is way too cheap imho but then alot of the ppl who will do a van for that price are probably not declaring it, I mean minus 20% tax off that and the vinyl cost, bit of travelling time and the cutting time, they’d be better off at McDonalds if they were declaring it.

    Cheers, Dewi

thanks for all the further replies!
rob, yes i remembered to run the flutes in opposite directions, however i didnt think about running them parallel, as i was unsure of how it would be mounted.
