  • Coreldraw X3 Educational – Is it true????

    Hi There,

I have recently had an issue with my Graphtec CE5000 cutter, which has been running perfectly for about 1 1/2 years now. I use Coreldraw and then send to print. Now i know what you are all thinking.
I have just been told i am doing it all wrong and I am infact missing the best part, cutting master 2.
This was installed on my PC but will not work. The guys at Graphtec think it’s because i have the educational version of Coreldraw and so not everything is available.

So anyway, is this true? and if so I need to get the full version, Any ideas anyone on where i can get it for a good price?. I know it may be out of date but it suits us perfectly …..One pc is windows 7, the other is Vista

Sorry for the waffle again. Thanks guys

I’m not sure X3 had VBA included with the educational version and that is almost certainly the reason why Cutting Master won’t run. VBA allows macros to be used and they can offer quit a bit more functionality to Draw. If you go to http://www.oberonplace.com or/and http://www.macromonster.com you will see what I mean.
If you get a full retail version of X3 VBA will be included, I’m fairly sure X4 educational version DID include VBA but be aware educational versions are not licensed for any commercial use.
Finding a newer version of Draw will be easy but many of the cheap options are just educational versions so be sure what you buy. If budget allows X5 is the latest version but if your work is relatively bread and butter vector work X3 or X4 will do the job.

cutting master is a real pain to work with i personally would not spend any money to use it.
it has one advantage over the windows driver that it will cut longer than 2700mm.

as Alan says with out the visual basic module CM2 will not load.

When installing corel, go to Custom/Options, you will see VBA or Visual Basic for Applications somewhere along there.

Chris is kinda right, I am now finding Cutting Master 2 a bit of a pig but I am struggling to find alternatives. I have Graficut here (which is a cut down version of SignLab) but it really doesn’t have the features of CM2.

I yet to try print to cut, I forgot about that.

I think the Graphtec is a wonderful machine, but the software for it is somewhat confusing/buggy.

I do use Cuttingmaster but I agree with the others in as much yhat it does have its problems and is by no means ideal. I do have Signlab (8) and I normally export or cut and paste from Corel into SL for cutting.
I’m surprised you have issues Dave, I find Signlab pretty solid, crashes are very, very few and far between and the cutting interface I’m very happy with. I’m running 32bit W7 machine but I had no problems with my previous machine which was XP Pro.
