I’m having trouble exporting my logo from Coreldraw 10 to Signcut, does anybody know how to get round this? thanks.

PS. I have tried the Send and Export options but keep getting a blank in Signcut.

You could try copying and pasting – this sometimes works between different applications but not always.

If you export as an .eps file you should be able to import this into most vector drawing packages including (hopefully) signcut.

Thanks for the fast response, cut & paste won’t work.
I can’t see an option for eps as a file type when I go to save, I have CDR, PAT,CDT, CLK, CMX, etc

Don’t use the File save menu in corel – use the file export menu instead (this will allow you to export the file as an eps).

OK, I can now export as an eps file, however when Signcut tries to read the file it shows up blank 😥

Ok I’m guessing here, but maybe your logo is a rasterised image (e.g jpg, bmp, gif etc.) as opposed to being vector drawn. And signcut (which I imagine is a cutting utility) possibly will not recognise anything that is not vector drawn?

To find out if this is the case go to the view menu (in corel) and select the wireframe view. If you can see your logo in outline it is vector drawn. But if you see a black and white version of your logo it is rasterised and will need to be vectorised before you can cut it.

If you are having difficulty understanding this, do a gogle search on vector drawn and raster images to gain an understanding of the differences between the two methods of drawing

The text is vectorised as I am using the text tool in Corel, signcut is a cutting utility and works when I use Inkscape but doesn’t work with Corel.
I have also updated the plugins for sign cut.
    Thanks for your help Phil.

    Hi Idrar,
Does it help if you convert your text to curves before exporting to eps?

OK – another possibility is that you are creating a file with the font embedded. Try converting your file to curves before exporting as eps.

No probs Phill, I have to do this with corel to artcut but thought this was due to artcut being a very basic programme.

Just a quick one before I start cutting, what does the tile feature do? it’s telling me it’s deactivated.

Tiling is required when the images you are cutting are larger than what will fit in the width of your cutter.

When exporting to eps (or AI) there is an option for ‘text to curves’ this will automatically convert all text to curves on export but will still be editable text when you save as cdr. EPS has the option to include a thumbnail, this is used by programmes like Quark for position and size but is not normally needed for drawing programmes, including it it can substantially increase your file size.
I would suggest if you are running V10 of Corel Draw that you upgrade, I found V10 to be unreliable and poor generally compared to previous and later versions.

LOL, thanks Phil, just been reading your van layout topic and have designed my layout in Adobe based on your write up.

I will post a link in a new thread, let us know what you think.
