Looking for some help with bevelled images..

I’ve got the basic shape and added a 20mm bevel, looks great on screen and when small, prints ok. now I’ve got the same to do again in two 1m diameter shapes, looks fine on screen..

Save to pdf and the resolution is awful, I’m trying a few setting changes on the pdf X1a options but if I knew what to do it would save a lot of time!!

    thanks in advance
    Hugh

I haven’t a clue with regards to Corel.
but can you not start again but make sure your working page/blank is bigger and higher resolution?
    i.e. A4 size at 300dpi
then create your image from scratch on that page.
(not saying those are the settings to use, just example)

ok, to add, I just remade the logo by starting with a flat shape, to size, broken apart and each element then bevelled, when saving it to pdf I removed compression which has improved the smaller objects no end, but the large object is still very pixellated … help!

    Hi Rob,
I’m working to full scale, page size is 1250 x 2000mm, saving as high a resolution as I can, but still issues on the largest pieces..

at a loss and giving up for the weekend..

even saving as a full scale tif and then importing, the large object still pixellated badly, all the other elements convert fine.

If I ‘break apart bevel’ it pixellates badly.

if I ‘convert to bitmap’ it just creates a flat object (no bevel).

I just do not know what I’m doing wrong.. I need to be able to convert to pdf (currently using x1a) and then import to onyx 11 rip. just cannot get the bevel to save properly, just the large object.. :bangshead: :bangshead: :bangshead: :bangshead: :bangshead: :bangshead:

will see if I can attach the file.. if anyone has any ideas I would be grateful. I need to keep the rotational angle so as to keep the correct shadow, part of this has already been printed and it needs to have the same shadow.

I use Corel X7, and exporting a roughly similar bevelled image as yours as a pdf, using "current proof settings" in the export dialogue yields perfect results, albeit in an 8MB file that takes a couple of minutes to render.

If that doesn’t work for you I could render the vector and drop you a link to the pdf file if you so wish?

Breaking the bezel apart before exporting it seams to work for me in X7.
Pixelation is only noticeable at 1000% zoom
I’ve made a pdf of it for you, if that would help, but it is too big to upload here.

Guys, thank you both, I’m away from the pc for a couple of days r&r in Devon, if you could possibly send / link to dragon signs at hotmail.com I’d be grateful 🙂

    Thank you again,

    Hugh

Hi WIll, I’ve just got back, have checked ibox and junk file but cannot see anything, would you mind trying again please?

I have tried ‘breaking bevel apart’ but all it does is pixelate it poorly and shift it north of it’s original position. I really don’t know why!

Re exporting to pdf using "current proof settings"… I can’t see an optoin for current proof settings on the window or options.

Also, on the ‘pre-flight’ pdf settings, it warns me that there is 1 object that falls outside the page size… there is not, and I have done everything I can think of to eliminate a possible ‘invisible entity’, even just a manual select > copy paste of the elements within the page.. it’s when I try to save it, it seems to jump a bit outside / break it apart, when I cancel the save and zoom back on the mouse the ‘jumped’ parts are now there and outside the page.

This is only happeneing on the large section of the design, the rest is perfect, beyond perfect!

I’ve just tried saving as several other types of pdf, still the same.. Am I making sense at all?!!!

I know this pc is getting on a bit but it should surely cope with something it was made to do originally?!

    Thanks for the help guys.

    Hi Hugh,

Will digest your post a bit later when I have a few minutes to spare, maybe I had your email address wrong, but it didn’t bounce so assumed it had landed – probably someone else is scratching their head wondering why they’ve got it!

Anyway, easiest and quickest is just to post the link, so here it is:-

    Will.
