The power consumption of a heat gun does not lend its self to being cordless, however Im willing to be proved wrong………… :lol1:

Saying that…I have a cordless extension lead…..
Sorry!!! 😳 😳

Is that the 50mtr or 25mtr one Matt.. I could be interested in one of those.

I have got a 5kw generator, but it keeps slipping off my tool belt.
-
Its a 50m one Martin, I use it when the batteries go on my squeegee.

Inverter, great idea. Thank you for the input guys regards Graham S

Be interested if you could get enough solar panels to fit on a jacket, then wire that up… might get candle power of around 10watts? lol

Gona be mucho £££ for an inverter able to run a heat gun. You are looking at something between 1.5Kw to 2Kw for a gun. Depending on the gun you are using (prob max powered tool) get a spar 15% on top to prevent over heating of the unit.

I saw a solar powered back in New York, for re-charging phone and I.pods. only one slight issue with that, it was $495

I’ve seen chargers you shake and they charge. They are for mobile phones and I guess us MEN.

Generator is the way to go me thinks…
Saying that if the job needs a heat gun, then isn’t it down to customer…?

quote Ian Johnston:get an inverter fitted to your van
Yep! And a spare battery! when you’ve killed the one in the van 😳

Just buy a second van to jump start the first van when it goes flat.
-
You could also fit an auxiliary battery to your van same as most caravans use to run the inverter, piece of cake to fit, that way it saves the chance of running the main battery down.

The Aux battery, requires a zig unit, used in RV’s some of them cost as much as a generator, so back to the original qustion, battery powered heat gun, would be great, but I can’t seem to locate one. So Mr Dewalt if your listening, make one. It wold be a handy bit of kit
-
I Agree Graham, but would hate to d=see the size of the battery!
Original question tho, why the need for one?

Matt, I have been on a couple of remote jobs (in the street) doing repairs, or cold weather when a cordless heat gun would have been ideal, it was just a thought.
-
propane blow-torch probably would be the easiest, cheapest alternative mate.
i have one (not for wrapping or anything) but have one that i picked up from B&Q for about £15. small and has a handle like a gun. it has a small twist function to increase/decrease the flame. "i think" you can also buy a small end peice/nozzle adaptor for them that disperses the heat as opposed to just an intense narrow flame.i know allot of the American wrappers use propane torches but i just dont like them for that sorta thing.
-
I’ve started using a propane torch for wrapping. I find the instant heat and not having a fan blow air onto the vinyl a great asset. I guess you wouldn’t want to leave them in the hands of an employee though. Be very easy to burn the vinyl or damage the car if your not careful.

To be honest I did consider the mini propane gun option, but thought that it would be difficult to control, but after hearing that you guys use them, It proves two things, one 1/ I am not going complety mad, and 2/ I guess I takes practice. Thank you again, Regards Graham

probably invest in one myself now.
Thanks guys, good info!
Matt
