  • converting from 4 colour to 6 colour mimaki cjv30-130

Posted by BJMillard on 15 February 2012 at 18:14

I have recently purchased a 6 month old mimaki cjv30-130 running 4 colours – I also have a mimaki cjv30-60 running on 6 colour CMYK lm lc. I want to convert the 130 to 6 colour but am having problems with the conversion process – I have flushed the system and gone through the cleaning/flushing process – switched the machine off and on and am at the stage where i am asked what inkset i am using which is ss21 but then it should give me the option of 4 or 6 colours but is only giving the option of 4 colours. have I missed a process? why havent I got the option of 6 colours? any help would be appreciated – thanks

I don’t know about the reason why you can’t select 6 color option in the menu but switching from/to 4 to 6 colors requires a small modification of the pipe lines behind the cartridges block.

You have to remove 4 bridges that connect 2 carts of the same type. My tech did it when I received the CJV which was preset to 4 colors but I wanted 6 colors+white setting.

This is just for your information in case you did not know that 😉

thanks for response Fabrice – I have removed the pipe joins and all that side is set to 6 colour but am not getting the option choice of 4 or 6 colour on the LCD? just gives ink choice and 4 colour only? it should give me 4 or 6 option – is it software issue? thanks

maybe something that must be set in service mode to enable the 6 color set? (?)

I don’t know more. It’s worth get in touch with you CJV30-60 tech by phone if he has any idea.

You will need to start up in service mode and then select the "head wash" option from the #Adjust menu. This will then give you the option to change the ink set.

as you have both 4 et 6 colors CJV30 machines, did you manage to compare the output quality of both configurations?

My tech says that the results are so close that it is no worth using 6 colors setup compared to 4 clors unless I use white (which is only available in 6 colors setup).

As I intend to switch to 4 colors instead of 6 colors, I wonder if I will loose in print quality (especially in the light gray spectrum).

hi fabrice – I have tested same prints on both printers and there is a fair difference in colour between the 2 – this may be minimised with colour settings though

main reason is to keep output consistent if we run the same job on either machine – we do a lot of skintone stickers for pos trays which are colour accurate and need to maintain consistency so would rather run same inkset

    thanks

That post is from nearly 6 years ago David, I would like to think that the OP sorted this out a long time ago 😆 😆 😆
