Converting files
Posted by Paul Seamer on 20 March 2007 at 18:25Hi guys. Wondering if there is a way to convert Jpeg files into Vector files? Ive got a few logo’s that I need to use ASAP. Any help will be great as I don’t have a clue! 🙂

Only way round it is to scan/upload them into your software and trace them or redraw them. Easy enough depending on the image, just a little time consuming but there is no magic button to do it all for you 🙂

Depends on what software you have. In Omega, you can import a black & white image and do a raster to vector automatically. If you post it in the file swap forum, I can do it for you although not until tomorrow.

Thanks for the help guys. I will try and post it in file swap. I am running omega software but don’t know how to convert it.
Thanks again
Just realised you have to be a member to use the file swapping section (Im not). When I click to go through to find out how much ect nothing happens. Any chance I could email the logo for now?

Hi Paul,
To use your Omega software to convert your jpegs, firstly ensure they are in black and white (2 colour). Select the image then go to tools and raster to vector. When the screen comes up, change the pixels size to rmove to 0 and ensure the resolution is set to high, click ok and viola, there you go.
Failing that, get your hand in your pocket and join the best sign site in the world and post the files in swap forum.

I’m now having dificulty in converting my colours. Jpegs into black and white at the 1 Bit colour level that Omega needs. Is there any (preferably free) software to do this conversation. Tried in MS Paint and MS Photo Editor but can’t seem to do it. Any suggestions?

Long time from I used Omega so can’t really say.
I’m killing time at the minute. If you want I could take a look at it

Dave, I don’t use Omega so no idea how it works but it seems a bit strange that you can only vectorise in black and white or is it greyscale? I use Inspire Pro and quite often it is better to vectorise an image in greyscale rather than colour even though one of the menu options is colour vectorisation.

Black and white, Greyscale, sameo sameo.
Paul, I use Paint Shop Pro and just decrease colours used.
Might be time to spend some money on a decent paint programe. You will need one eventually.
