Converting CDR to EPS/AI
Posted by extreme on 11 October 2006 at 13:34Hi
I am new to the forum and signwriting and am trying to convert a CDR image to an EPS image. I tried converting it using the file convertor on CorelDRAW x3 but when I tried to open/import it to WinPCsign it comes up with a system error AV12323 Abort Program?
Can anyone help with this please?
Thanks
Suzanne

I am not familiar with Winpcsign but 2 things to try:
export as AI click OFF any of the options ie simulate complex fills
ensure convert text to curves is on
Export as a low version of AI ie 4If exporting as eps:
Don’t include the header
Convert text to curves
Use postscript level 1Let us know if this works. These settings may be important if your programme is fairly old.

Try using Ai instead of EPS Suzanne, in the compatibility option try Adobe Illustrator 1.1.

Hi
HOORAY 😀
Thanks for all the advice, I managed it by exporting as AI and version 4. I guess that my edition of WinPCSign is old?
Can you advise which is better to use WinPCSign or CorelDRAW?
Also when I was trying to cut an image on Corel I could just select one image? Perhaps I was doing something wrong (Again!)
Many thanks

Hi
Upon checking someof the images, it hasn’t converted them all. I am able to view the image on WinPCSign but when I go to cut it the image isn’t there?
Can anyone shed any light on that?
Many thanks

Does your corel file contain bitmap images as well as vectors?, as in my cutter software i can view bitmaps saved with the file but you need vectors to cut from. If this is the case then you need to convert the bitmaps into vectors. Also see if you can read .AI of version 7 or 8, i find these the most compatible when i write cutter files for people with older software. Another thing i do is actually make sure all text and objects are converted to curves and are all individual objects in corel before i save as .AI, as sometimes the save as filter for .AI files as failed converting to curves and when opened in some software the letters for eg. do not have the holes ie. a filled circle only in the case of a O or B etc..
Hope this helps

Generally the export as AI is more reliable than save as. Same applies when importing ie import the file with the file extension option can give better results just importing any file.
