• Contour cut problems – Illustrator to Flexisign Pro 8.5

    Hi everyone,

I’ve posted this in the flexi section of the forum, but thought I’d reword it a little and post here, with my issue also relating to illustrator…

I’m having real problems with taking a contour line I’ve made in Illustrator and contour cutting in flexisign 8.5. The contour cutting feature in flexi doesn’t give me the cut lines that I want, which is why I want to create the cut lines in Illustrator – where I do all my artwork. Image below gives an idea of the cut line I am after for my simple test print…

I’ve found some info on other forums from google searches, with what I believe should be:
create new swatch named ‘CutContour’, making sure its a spot colour

put the contour path on its own layer, unlocked and above the print layer
• add CutContour to the Custom Colur Mapping
When I send the contour job to the cutter it doesn’t respond at all, which may be down to the cutter being set up on usb and not serial (its a Liyu which are currently being imported by Andy at Mistatees).

Is this the method others use for using custom contour paths from Illustrator? I am looking to start cutting motocross graphics, which will require custom contour paths.

Any help would be really much appreciated.

      Thanks,

      Richard

    Hi,
From what I remember in Flexi you have the option to define a path as contour cut line. So, select the line with the spot color named contour cut and define it as contour cut line. This should work.

    Hi, thanks for the reply.

I was struggling with this as I was only able to select single paths and not groups of paths required to cut the motocross graphics.

I will keep on ticking along though and try work it out.

    Thanks,

    Rich

Hi Richard, also you should search the forum for cutpath, cutcontour and illustrator, there are several issues with the cutpath and "transparencies" for one. If you have transparent or semi-transparent colors/object in illy, it wont show in versaworks and something similar could be in Flexi. Just a hint!

[EDIT] OMG im loussy at quoting…
