  • Continual problems with cross contamination

After having problems with cyan and black contamination we are now printing a strip of 100% colours before doing a print to balance everything out but now we are having s problem with magenta striping in blocks of yellow colour. Generally starts off ok and will get progressively worse and then ok again. It seems to be cyclical through the print. The inks are all level in the reservoirs and it looks better on high quality although it is still evident. If anyone can suggest anything we would be very greatful. I have included a photo to show the problem.

Just a guess from what you said about levels it has bulk ink system which the level may be to high
    .
Presumably the capping station and pumps are in good condition.

Thanks for the speedy reply Chris.
This is strange. Previously we had the issue of the cyan ink working its way up the blackfeed tube over night. That was due to the cyan ink being higher than the black. We levelled off the inks and no more problems until now.
This problem doesn’t start straight away, all seems well, then a hint of red will appear in the yellow.
It’s gets progressively worse as the work continues then clears itself, then it appears again, then clears, on and off through the work???
All this without going over the capping station.
Unless there is something I’m missing this would surely eliminate the capping station and pump?
We are running a ciss system, so we’ll try reducing the inks to see if that changes things.

Any other suggestions would be welcomed. Many thanks

    what printer is it ?

on older rolands there is a spit sponge between the capping stations and the print bed this swells up and touches the head on each pass contaminating the heads.
also the standard print mode looks the same as my older roland which has a tired head about to be replaced. but that does not come and go.

    Hi again Chris.
I’ve reduced the ink levels to just below half way, and they’re both even.
It’s still doing the same thing.
I’ve flushed the capping stations through with cleaning solution and then slowly drawn ink through the print heads with a syringe, just before the pump.
The printer is a uniform cadet plus sp1400c, or versacamm sj 640 as you may know it as.
There is the sponge thing the heads pass over, but its clear of the heads.
It’s the coming and going of the magenta I don’t get?
It does appear very rhythmic, fading in and out every 4 inches or so?
    I’m puzzled.

I’ve printed a colour swatch to see if we can get a good yellow (in case it was versaworks throwing a spanner in the works) this is what we get!
