  • Considering adding custom design option to online shop

Posted by Nikki Cox on 30 April 2013 at 13:17

Can anyone offer any advice or experience (good or bad), with regard to adding the ability for customers to design own signs, T shirts etc on my new online shop. (God Help me…as the last thing I need is to encourage the paintshop brigade really)
    Software?
    Any help gladly received.
    Cheers

It’s terrible I find, either you are paying between £3k-£5k for the software for the basic online applications, then you would have to get someone to implement this for a cost if that is not included within the price. And again if you ned custom requirements you are again paying a fortune for this ontop. It’s a good idea but the biggest pain in the bum to implement I find.

If you are doing t-shirts for example, if a customer has to upload their logo, most customers would upload this in raster form, where this does not contain any cut lines etc.

But it can be done though if you want to pay big bucks for it.

We looked at it a few years back – £5-7k startup and be prepared to spend 4 months setting it up and pushing promotion.
Prop’ cheaper an quicker now, but it will still require a large amount of time setting up – We looked a Redtie for my printing company (more web to print then T shirt design).

If you’ve got the time & resource’s I’d go for it – web commerce is still a growth area…. but high start up costs.
