    Hi Everyone!!!

This is my first post. I’ve just purchased a sp-540v however am having issues connecting it to my laptop. When the chap brought it he installed it fine with VersaWorks with a crossover Ethernet cable. However when I’ve unplugged it and plugged my normal networked cable in connected to router it’s reset ip and now I can’t get it to connect to rip anything. I’ve attached Photo, it shows up in NET TOOL but can’t get the bloody thing to connect to network to communicate. I’ve tried setting ip to 10.0.0.10 and nothing, then tried to increase last digits to .11 and still no look. Tried setting mask to 10.0.0.11 and it won’t let me, says it must be contiguous.

I read on internet about a display system info to find ip on your machine. I’ve tried looking for system info on the actual printer menu and its not displayed, I’ve tried going into the maintenance service menu and it’s not in their either.

I think I mite have to purchase a laptop/pc with 2 network ports as I can’t keep doing this every time unless anyone could suggest any alternative and keep my laptop?

welcome nice if you say a few words about your self in the hello forum

the page you are showing sets the computers ip
the printer ip is set in versaworks and is probably in the range 192.168.000.???
if you want to connect to the internet router then i have found 2 networks ok
add a card or buy a £15 wireless connector to connect to the web.
but every network seams a bit different so can’t say exactly

    Hi Chris,

Thanks for your reply. Versaworks is demanding I fill in IP. I’ve tried the 10.0.0.10 and no luck. It’s got something to do with network tcp/ip settings. As it’s having a problem communicating laptop>cadet. Network Access is crossed out.

It was working great but since I’ve unplugged it and put my normal internet network cable in it’s reset settings back to my broadband ip settings. Does the subnet mask ip on the printer also have to match with your network also? As I don’t know what the subnet mask is set to on the printer. It seems like I need to somehow find all the information other then then IP is thee anyway of printing this information out from the printer menu? What about gateway IP, do I set this to 10.0.0.10 as well? Confused.com haha.

Unfortunately can’t add another network card to laptop :(. May have to buy a laptop with 2 Ethernet ports or purchase a ethernet to USB adapter.

As Chris has said you will need to use the ip address of the printer itself, have a look around the printer for it & at the documentation that came with your printer. Will start as Chris has said with 192.168.

You would be better off with another machine anyway as you will have this problem every time you change over. Not sure what router you are running but if using something like mach3 then any cheap second hand machine running xp will do.

    Hi Martin,

I’ve attached a photo mate, showing IP, 010.000.000.010 using nettool and it was working on this IP. The guy set it up that sold me it but its the other information I need subnet mask & gateway ip to be able to fully communicate with printer. Also i’ve just seen that this printer doesn’t come with the "IP address info" menu on the printer as it’s an earlier model apparently the newer models come with the option to set & lookup this information through the printer.

    Cheers,
    Adam

    Subnet mask should be 255.255.255.0
    ok read ur message now

The printer will have a fixed IP… u need to find it in the menus of the printer, not the PC. Write it down.

When you plug ur Laptop into the router (or wireless) your machine will be ASSIGNed a number. You find this out in Status .. it will look like 192.168.1.2 or something like that

You got to change the printers number to something similar…

    192.168.1.x to maybe 192.168.1.100
    or
    192.168.0.x to maybe 192.168.0.100
    or
    10.0.0.x to maybe 10.0.0.100

Depends really where your numbers are…. your router will be in charge of your laptops number… so u just set the printer to a fixed one

    Hi Dave,

Unfortunately my printer doesn’t have the system info submenu in the printer to find ip according to roland this is because it’s an older machine. However I managed to get it to sync up lastnight using the PRINTSERVER-Nettool to change IP of the printer to my laptop excluding the last 3 digits were different.

    Thanks everyone for your help.

If you are trying to put the Roland on to an internet connection that uses a dynamic IP it will not work. You will need to use a separate Ethernet port.

the link is Rolands help file video to set everything correctly
