Display maker will give you really great looking prints and is a very nice machine.
    BUT
Their customer support sucks in a big way, so beware!

This is my experience with them from about 7 years ago. Since then they might have changer their support structure, but at that time it was so bad that I would never recommend purchasing Color span product to anyone.

I am also looking at flatbeds and one was the displaymaker 98uvx. I’ve seen print from a displaymaker and it was very good on various substrates. My reservations were that the printerhead isn’t covered like say the uniform commander and the print heads are £1500 each!!! It does look cheap and cheerful too. Pity. Undecided as we are waiting on samples from the commander.

Note, sure what it is like in Europe, but in North America the ColorSpan support currently is good. I’ve had no problems getting answers to questions or with the field techs that have been here. I would add that I have a 72SR (solvent) and not a UVR/UVX. I have heard stories about how things were years ago, however…

I’d be curious to hear what the concern of not having the top of the printer enclosed is. Finger jams, maybe?

One thing I would suggest about the flat bed printers from ColorSpan is that head hight adjustment for rigid really is a PITA. I’d also suggest that you cconsider their RIP instead of Onyx. We went with Onyx because it was more full-featured than ColorSpan’s but the products integration with the printer is pretty weak, Onyx is quite possibly the slowest RIP in the universe, and colour management is ackward at best. Not saying Onyx isn’t a great product… I’m just saying that it may not be great enough to be worth the pain.

Hi Rob – thanks for those points and duly noted. The concern with the heads being uncovered was that it is maybe more open to dirt and mechanism damage. We can always clone more fingers or replace staff. (Up go my insurance premiums and here come Health and Safety.)

Dust and debris I can understand 🙂

ColorSpan is putting some pretty industrial heads in these machines and there are mechanisms for manual cleaning. There should also be jet remapping facilities in this unit so you’d probably be ok. When I bought my unit (solvent) from CS they were willing to suppy a list of names of owners in different markets so i could speak with them directly. Perhaps this might be a good course of action for you if you’re getting series.

Over here, in North America, this UVR/UVX is really taking the UV market by storm. At the entry level none of the other products seem to be making the same type of mark. Still thing there’s room for improvement with the printer but the price is pretty good for what you get.

Hi Guys, we have just purchased a UVR and have been running it flat out ever since. the prints and the speed that it runs at are amazing . banners and printed corflutes seem to be the most profitable types of signage so far as these can be produced extremely quickly and very economicaly. if you have any questions please dont hesetate to contact me on (mod-edit)

    cheers
