CNC Router – which software do you recommend?
Posted by Ian D'Rozario on 5 April 2006 at 14:37Hi guys,
I’m new to using cnc router machines, and I have a few questions regarding the software.
I have an option of getting either signblazer pro or casmate with the router i’m getting. Which should I chose and why? Thanks in advance.

I tried searching for more info on casmate and they do not seam to be around anymore. Can anyone help me?

Casmate is no longer supported so you will no longer be able to obtain updates or fixes for the dongle should this fail.
I don’t know about Signblazer – but if this is a secondhand system you are buying (which I’m assuming it is given that Casmate is no longer available) I would check that signblazer is still available new and is not out of date like Casmate is.
Casmate will also not run on any operating system newer than windows 98. (The dongle is not recognised when using windows XP – so the program crashes).

Thank you so much for the info.
It is actually a brand new machine and initially the salesman included signblazer (http://www.colorchromefirst.com) but later he says that due to my job scope, casmate is better suited. But looking at both programs from what I see on the web, casmate is old. I just needed to confirm this.
Another question, they are also providing me with EnRoute software. Is this program able to do the drawings too similar to casmate or do I still need a good "Drawing" program?

Casmate was produced by a company called Scanvec who I believe also produce enroute. Scanvec ceased to exist a few years ago when they were taken over by Amiable to form a new company called Scanvec Amiable. Might be worth doing some searches about casmate by looking at Scanvec to see whjat you can find out. I’m suprised that this company is able to offer Casmate as new software – maybe it’s been re-launched, I honestly don’t know.
I still use Casmate – I think it’s a very good vector design program – however as I said earlier it will only run on operating systems up to windows 98 (unless it has been re-launched and updated). These are questions your vendor should be able to answer. 😀

Will ask my supplier tomorrow about this. At lease now I can try to get some sleep. 😮 Thanks Phill for your help. If I get more info I’ll post it up.
