Cloned Website?
I went on line today to buy my Road Tax. Did a quick google search and came across this site:-
https://taxdisc-direct.uk.com/I then realised this was not the official DVLA website, but another site masquerading as such, and taking a hefty fee for the privelege of actring as an agent to buy road tax.
The site I should have been on is this one:-
https://www.taxdisc.direct.gov.uk/EvlPortalApp/app/home/intro
(Click on the "Apply for a tax disc" icon and you will be taken to a page almost indistinguishable from the scam site shown above)I emailed the DVLA to advise them of the "cloned" version of their website and suggested it should be closed down.
The reply I received back was complacent to say the least. They agreed that it was a scam site and they were aware of it – but there was nothing they could do about it. However, I pointed out to them that this was surely a breach of copyright? The scam site was using their colours and icons to mislead people and pass themselves off as the official site.
Isn’t it shocking that scams like this are allowed to exist – and our officials even when made aware of these dubious schemes seem unprepared to take any action to stamp it out and protect the general public?
