  • Clear Banner Vinyl?? Does it exist

Posted by BenRead on 15 September 2010 at 10:46

    Morning all,

I have a customer that is requiring clear film that is printable and durable?

Is there a clear banner material that exists?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks Ben

i could be wrong Ben, but i doubt it mate…

you can print onto "some" white banner vinyls. i also think that there are some white digital banner vinyls available.

the thing is, if you print onto clear, you NEED the white as a base colour anyway, which would be made up of the white banner it was being applied to.
if this were the case you could print onto white digital banner vinyl and apply?

i’m guessing im probably missing something to why this is needed… 😀

Something like what they use on awnings might work.

    Hi guys,

Whats its for is to block a shop seating area of wind but still to allow light etc through.

I guess what i could do is buy something like you find on an awning then apply graphics after, where would i get that kind of plastic from?

    Cheers Ben

I would contact an awing manufacturer and get them to make it to size for you, then fit graphics after.

i would be careful if this is the case…
branded banners for seating areas are normally low and although not always. more and more are done using banner mesh these days, to allow for wind load.
if you are trying to provide an actual wind "block" for those seated, your barrier system is going to have to be heavily weighted down or it will act like a sail and blow over. H&S comes to mind here! 😕

    Hi guys,

The area that is to be blocked off is an outdoor smoking area, the frame work is in place as we have hoardings 4ft high at the bottom its just the top area that is causing some confusion. As im not 100% what to suggest for him!

The clear banner/awning plastic need to A stop the wind and B allow me to put graphics on there? :s 😮

Any final ideas would be great before i get back to my customer tomorrow with the answer.

    Cheers ben

as stated, you got to think Sail’s when dealing with banners wind load.

    a drawing might help, lol

I have written one clear Dutch blind, Can’t remember what the material was called, but it was a heat and stretch wet look. The valance obviously wasn’t heated, but it had the trim welded to it, so either way the product is the one you need. The blind was made by "Nantmor" in Clacton-on-Sea.
Just another word, some of these materials used in conjunction with other products can cause plasticizer migration, so be aware.

    Hi Ben

I spotted this thread posted by Mindaugas and i think he may have the answer for you on the clear banner being used as a wind break for folk seated in out door cafe eating areas?

I still very much think you will have problems with how it is fixed in position because temp free standing posts would probably blown over ide think. but at least you can see from Mindaugas post the idea your probably trying to achieve.
