  • Clear acrylic sign with stand off locators

I had an enquiry earlier for an office sign to be made using clear acrylic fitted to the wall using stand off locators. The size they asked for was to measure 4 or 5ft sq. I felt that this was a bit too big and was going to suggest something smaller when I replied by email. Later on I received another enquiry (different customer) for an even bigger sign. Again using clear acrylic with stand off locators. This time to measure 8ft x 5ft.

Whats the biggest you would recommend – and am I being over cautious in suggesting that these are too big for an office space and are likely to cause problems when fitted using stand off locators.

    Both are internal signs

    Phil,

We do a lot of internal display work for estate agents using acrylic and stand off studs

If you take an average size acrylic wall display, say….1000mm (wide) x 1500mm (high) x 5 mm (thick) which could have 12 or 16 acrylic leaflet holders on ….we would generally use about 8 of the ‘invisible’ Snapfix male/female locators on Or alternatively we would use about 6 of the stainless steel barrel type fixings

You could also mix and match them……..using a few visible stainless steel locators and hiding the Snapfix ones behind letters or graphics to give it a bit extra

The main problem is getting a decent fix to the wall….especially if it is cavity wall

I’ve done a few 1500×1000 in 8mm clear with 8 standoffs per sign.

Used ‘screw-in’ type plasterboard fixings on them all.

Nearly all of the weight is vertical so next to nothing pulling them out.

8×5 is OK so long as there’s enough fixings. Will weigh a ton to lift & keep in place when mounting it though!
