    Hi folks,
I’m plotting some rugby logos/badges in silver vinyl and also chrome/mirrored vinyl. They are quite small and very thin logos to apply mainly to the rear of cars. The problem I’m having is when I apply application tape to the logos, the silver lifts off the backing paper as normal, but the chrome is an absolute nightmare to separate from the backing paper. I can just about separate it by using my scalpel and slowly lifting it with the application tape. I can’t let customers do this as they would have a nightmare trying to do this. I’ve used paper and clear application tape and they both do not lift the vinyl separate from the backing. Is there a better chrome vinyl to use, is there a different application tape to use or is there any other way I can make it easier for customers to be able to just lift the stickers off and stick them. Thanks Lee

    Hi lee,

Most chrome (proper chrome) vinyls I have had are thinner than most vinyls. I would of thought your pressures are to high and the cut is to deep. I’d take the cutting pressure down, if not then take the blade back in the holder a wee bit more. Sounds like a pressure issue though.

    Hi Chris,
The first logo I cut I didn’t adjust the height of the blade and yes, when I tried to peel off the vinyl it also took off the paper as well as the depth was too deep a cut. I adjusted it till you couldn’t see any cut lines on the backing paper. It doesn’t seem to take any paper off with the vinyl, it just seems a nightmare to separate the vinyl from the backing paper. Once you get a corner of the logo sticking to the application tape it comes off kind of ok. It’s just getting the vinyl to stick to the application tape and separating it from the backing paper that’s proving a headache.

Cut and apply application tape, they you peel off the backing paper, then place the graphic down on a new backing paper.

I would guess you are using either very old stock, or a cheap non-branded product.

Hi guys, the chrome vinyl was some old stock. Got another roll delivered yesterday and oh my god, it is so easy to lift off the backing now. Thanks for the suggestions
