  • Christmas in London

Yes I know it’s a bit early to be thinking about next xmas but we’re doing a month long home swap next xmas and new year. Our home in Squamish, British Columbia for a home in west London.
I haven’t been to the UK in about thirty years and this will be the first time for my wife and our two girls; I can tell you I’m pretty excited to be going back.
Last time there I was tagging along with my dad on a business trip and only got to spend four days but I was blown away with what sightseeing I managed to squeeze in during that short stay.
Wondering what should be on our "must see – must-do" list?
    Thanks – Boyd

Ha!…actually we had talked about that.
We’re fourth generation Canadian but my dad’s side of the family origins are in Ayrshire. That being said supposedly we were originally banished to Nova Scota in the new lands; dunno if Scotland would allow us back in! 😉

NO wrong end of the country! 😉 Visit us country bumpkins down in Dorset and enjoy the world heritage coastline & some of the most beautiful countryside in the British Isles 😛

Well they’ve let me live in Scotland for over 30 years so you shouldn’t have any problem getting in at all :lol1: :lol1: :lol1:

You better come and visit us soon – otherwise, come September (if Herr Salmond gets his way) there’ll be a border put in place to keep the English (and any one else that doesn’t eat haggis) "oot" 🙄

If your talkng about London town Boyd,

Its a great place, especially at Christmas. The skyline has changed over the last 30 years. Just vist the usual sights and don’t be afraid to jump on the tube ( London Underground) to get from place to place it really is easy just have a tube map.
The London Eye is a must but would advise to pre-book and hope for a clear day 😎 Covent Garden is a pleasant place to visit sit and have a coffee and people watch. The National Gellery http://www.nationalgallery.org.uk/visiting/ in Trafalgar Square is great place to spend a few hours.
Also do the open top bus ride, I have never done it in London but often the best way to find out the history of the place.I’ve done it on New York, Barcelona etc and find it the best way to see a city.

Also west of Heathrow and not a million miles from West London is Windsor castle and grounds, well worth a vist..

Don’t go to Scotland though, bloody freezing and always raining…. 😀 😀

Hope this helps some and have a great trip

Everything that Martin said + St. Paul’s Cathedral and Westminster Abbey – fantastic structures and loads of history and if it’s open in December you could try and visit Buckingham Palace the interiors of some of the rooms in that building are amazing.
