  • Cheap A-Boards. Hinge Handle

I´ve just received samples from England of the HINGE HANDLE for making cheap A-Boards.This was discussed a couple of weeks ago, and one of the the replies was from George (Elsmore?).
He said he´d used the hinge with 5mm. PVC.
Although the hinge is a great idea, I find 5mm. is to "bendy".
10mm. does the job much better, but is a lot more expensive.
From a cost point of view, obviously I´d like to use 5mm. But is this really a practical option?

    5mm x 3050 x 2020 costs in Spain 158 euros (approx. 100 pounds).
This works out at approx. 10 pounds per. A-Board (plus the cost of the hinge). 10mm. PVC is almost twice the price.
First question is, how can I use 5mm. as a practical option?
2nd. question: How do the prices for PVC compare with what you pay in the UK or any other country?

At the moment I can make A-Boards using attractive metal frames (one size only) in various colours for about 30 quid including 2 pieces of 5mm. x 580 x 1000 PVC which slide into the frame and can easily be reversed to display a different message on the other side.
As sign-makers, if you had these, would you stock a few Hinge Handles as well?

Any opinions or advice would much appreciated.

    Thanks. Chris

Chris you find 5mm to bendy? what size are the boards you cut? as for £100 a sheet thats very expensive indeed and as for 10mm being twice the price that is also expensive!!! I offer the customer the choice 5mm or 10mm which is reflected in the price and i have 2 made up so they can make there own choice. I also offer another half a dozen types of "A" board in varying prices so the customer has a wide variety of choice and of course price and generally find it Bob the builder who wants the cheap boards. Also in your bottom paragraph if you are trying to market these why not show some phots 😉

    George. Thanks for your reply.
Sorry. After too much vino and converting Pounds to Euros I got the price of 5mm. PVC wrong. It should have read approx. 65 quid per sheet, not 100. 10mm. is 120 quidish. This appears to be the average price paid by other small sign-shops here. Is it still expensive?
I take your point about offering various sizes. For small A-Boards, 5mm. would be fine. But for say 100 x 60 the PVC is "bendy". Also the feet don´t fit.
Yes, I have the possibility of marketing the Hinge Handle here, so I´m seeking opinions from anyone who has experience with them.
I don´t have any photos yet, but when I do, I´ll put them on my website.
vistagraffica.net if I´m allowed to mention this.

    Regards, Chris
