This is something I have looked at in the past from Jag supplies, but was put off with the measurement only being in Inches. What I want to know is your views on this tool and whether it adds value to your tool box???

ive had one for years and bought it from JAG. had one before that, that i bought from the states. you can see it in my toolbox demo HERE

I actually prefer working in inches on large scale work and only switch to mm if the job spec has been provided in mm or if its a more precision measurement I’m after. bottom line is, they do work well and help speed things up if doing allot of measuring etc i mean, they are are only something like £20? worth the investment if nothing else but to try… you may not use it daily but when you do im sure you will fine it handy.

Is it really that difficult to divide a number by 2?. I’d prefer to keep my mind active.

Stanley did do one with both scales and a digi display – it also had a button that would give the center dimension.

We all work in measurements all the time, our maths really should be spot on, especially when it comes to dividing by 2. In the early days it’d sometimes take me a second to work something out, but it should now be second nature.
I personally don’t play darts, but if you consider the "in the head" calculations required for that, as they change on each throw, our work is pretty simple.

I have one, but hardly use it,
you can come unstuck though, if you use it to measure actual sizes, read the wrong side, and your graphics will be a tad small!

If you want to find the centre, either measure and just divide by 2, or use a line and fold in half, simples
If you need to be spot on use the radius method.

I got my one from an American Sign Show…and haven’t used it in ages, until this morning when my metric tape lost it’s end and I got to measure in inches again (saved by the trusty tool kit in the car routine)

I have just stood and lettered 40-50 random sized Health & Safety signs from 6inch square to around 10ft x 5ft. the majority was done using this tape.
its not great for the very small signs at all… and maybe a bit clumbersome to handle… but when doing lots of varied sizes and large panel work i do like having the quick at a glance centre point.
keeps me right whilst I’m stood gabbing away to one of the lads. :lol1:

don’t get me wrong, i actually prefer the small mm / inch tapes for general sign work, vans etc but i still like having the centre tape at hand.

I bought one but as I grew up in a country that doesn’t work in inches I couldn’t get on with it and haven’t used it for ages, not since I picked it up and measured a panel to cut and cut it wrong like Peter mentioned 😳 :lol1:

Now it just sits in my tool box taking up space 🙄
