    hey guys,

since getting back off of holiday my pc has begun to play about again,

the prob which is causing the most immediate headache is corel, i select the item to send to winplot, click the winplot tab and it exports….. nothing, just a blank winplot screen.

i’ve reloaded winplots, default set corel, yet it’s still happening, usually the recovery manager flashes up ands shuts corel down too,

until this began to happen i was getting lots of the (corel)"low memory" warnings flashing up,

i’ve also had probs with some photo viewing software, opens older or small files of photos (large thumbnails shown) just fine but, give it a meaty file to open and it just turns itself off.

this led me to think that it must be the ram, i’ve had the occasional prob with what appear to be ram related probs but, it’s always proved to be something else, so today i went up to the pc shop and bought 4gb of DDR3 ram and installed it,

    same poxy problem.

before i begin uninstalling and re-installing, does anyone have any sugestions as to why this might be happening?

    thanks in advance,
    Hugh.

ps, my mother board supports ddr3 (two slots-dual channel) and ddr2 (four slots dual channel), can i stick the 2gig ddr2 back into it’s slots? i guess there’s no real benefit to doing so with XP Pro mind! the pc has 1.25TB of storage, quad core processors and new nvidea graphics card, so shouldn’t be any of that.

that happens to me with customer art work due to layers and pages.
anyway your fault for going on holiday 😛

    lol,

funny you mention that, there were four pages open on the drawing for some reason (never have been before) so i closed them, still the same thing,

copied and pasted affected part of the files to new page and it loaded ok, so i copied other work to the same page and it did it again 🙁

i’ll look more into layers ad things, hate em!

    Hugh

edit, seems to sometimes load the first export but, after one or maybe two exports, reverts to loading blank pages 🙁 can’t see any probs with layers/pages.

edit 2… files are all my own and the one i’m currently trying to use has been used hundreds of times.

iut’s normally very stable, gonna see if i remember how to roll back to a previous date, if no joy then it’ll have to be a reinstall of all affected progs 🙁

When I’ve had a blank page in Winplot its because the Ai exported from Draw has been wrong, either too higher version or fonts have not been converted to curves on export.
Start by exporting ai file with a low version of Ai and text to curves in the dialogue box – then try Winplot again, first by importing the Ai file and then with the Winplot button in Draw.
Draw may benefit with a F8 restart.

    Hi Alan,

thanks mate, will have a look, done the F8 already though.

the file is an old one which i’ve cut probably hundreds of times, not sure about saving as an older version though, i’m using 12 with the winplot plug-in for 12, never had to convert etc before, will try it though,

just in process of downloading newest winplot and plug in. see if that helps, then if your ideas don’t, it’ll be a corel install.

    ta,

    Hugh

looks like it’ll have to be the corel install as the new winplot plug i has installed itself to CS4 (even though it’s an elapsed evaluation copy but, can’t start corel for some reason.

gonna be another 1am finish time i get this working and the job cut!!

just checking through my program list to see whats possibly not required and to remove corel etc,

what the heck is futuremark 3dmark06? it’s over 1gb in file size 😮 some gaming thing by the looks, a new install…. think someone’s been on the pc while i’ve been away, a few strangely altered corel files saved as back-up files appeared when i re-opened things, had also lost tool bars, a colour palet, etc. grrrr.

ok, seem to have cracked the corel issue, re-installed everything, starting with corel, and it seems (touch wood) to be ok.

just the other issue of the unstable cam jpeg resizing and viewing software now,

at least i can begin cutting though 😕
