  • cannot load fonts with xp & service pack 3

Posted by Marcella Ross on 19 August 2009 at 10:10

Has anyone had any problems installing fonts with Service Pack 3? I’m having a nightmare after installing fonts onto my new pc which runs SP3. It’s causing software to crash. The error code it shows is a font load error.
I can’t get any work done because I can’t get to my fonts ๐Ÿ˜ฅ

just read that and have gone into the registry. Followed the instructions ……. but I already have a REG_DWORD entry called SessionImageSize there?????? Only difference is that the decimal value is different.
Should I change this value? ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

here’s the instructions for the fix

Open the registry editor (regedit)Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management

Add a new REG_DWORD entry called SessionImageSize with a value (decimal) of 20

    Reboot

The Type 1 fonts should now open/install without any problems.

But as I mentioned I have an entry of that name already although the value is different. ๐Ÿ˜•

yeah I know, that’s what I said. So the question was do I leave mine alone with a decimal value of 16 or change the value?

right if I change it to 20 and something horrible happens, can I change it back to 16 and be back to where I am now? Or will it blow up burn my hair, ruin my nail polish and blister my face? ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

I think that registry entry is more specific to Graphic card problems.

Marcie are any fonts showing under control panel, appearance – themes , fonts?

If you open something simple like Notepad and type some text can you highlight it and change the typeface ok?

ok I confess to not knowing a lot but if the help forum sais you need a value of 20 in the registry and you’ve only got 16 that must be why yours isn’t working so as said back everything up and change it – you can undo it if it doesnt solve the problem.

A puter with no fonts is as much use as a chocolate teapot ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

    Marcie the

    "SessionImageSize"=dword:00000020

20 value apparently refers to allocated memory you can increase it.

I would also check that you have the latest drivers for the graphics card from Dells site.

Also after changing registry entries you need to Reboot to take effect.

if you still have NO joy, what Graphics card do you have?

    Tim.

too many technical questions ………….. I dunno! LOL.

The graphics card on the pc (says me looking at the Dell paperwork)

Video Card Integrated Intelยฎ Graphic Media Accelerator X4500

so do I change the value, is the majority vote that I change it? My face won’t blister then?
