Happy New Year to everyone. Now we are back to the grindstone….

This is a problem I had before the holidays, hoped it might have dissappeared whilst I was away-some chance!

I have a vehicle to sign, very simple easy font in reflective. I had problems getting the cutting pressure correct, thought I had sorted it, but have found, on the last of my reflective (lots went in the bin) that it’s cut well in places, but others not, mostly the cuts are not finished, so each letter has to be manually finished. The lettering also looks ‘wonky’, as though the blade was not moving straight during cuts.

    I used a 60 deg blade.

Has anyone got any ideas on this one?

    Thanks

    Lorraine

I have never used a 60 deg blade so I don’t know if there are any special considerations for them. However, when I cut reflective I don’t adjust the blade depth, I just slow the plotter down to about half its normal speed. It sounds as though your blade is skidding over the surface in places – is it nice and sharp? Try lowering the speed.

Also It sounds like the offset is not correct, (unfinished letters)
The offset on a 60 degree blade is normally different to a 45.

    Blade holder may be duff.

Does it cut OK on normal vinyl?

Just to confirm a theory already mentioned:

I have cut lots of LG Reflective successfully (on my Summa machine) by slowing down the cutting speed to approx half speed and increasing pressure from normal vinyl considerably with a standard 45 degree blade.
A new blade was used which I threw away when I finished the job.

    Hope this helps,

    Gary

If your cutter has a quality setting set it too this. Also turn your blade up to 160grams rather than the usual 100/120.

Lorraine ive cut lg lite succesfully using a standard blade, just upped the cutting pressure by 10 above current setting remeber to put the pressure back after tho or you rip thro the nextjob waste the vinyl and curse a bit more

    good luck
