    it is not possible to just type in a barcode. There did use to be a plugin for Illustrator, not sure it is still supported though. The program do use the font on the link, but barcodes are not direct replacements letter for letter !!

    There are programs to create barcodes, might even be a freeone.

    Most retail UK barcodes are CODE 128 format. but it can get very technical, very quickly.

    Theres plenty of sites for QR codes too – 3D barcodes if that helps

    Corel has been able to do it for some while, if you have a copy of that you could put the file into Illy.

    Can do most barcode formats and it exports to EPS so you can import it into Illy/Corel.
