    Hi Rob,

Speaking of Macs we have just purchased a new iMac and was wondering what the best programm for vinyl cutting is.
At first we only intend to make single colour decals however going through the boards on here a printer cutter may be the most profitable for printing multi-colour decals.

You said in your hello thread that you do design work, what programs do you use for that??
If you already have a vector based program such as corel or illustrator then you can use that, not sure if you can cut directly from them but if you can’t there seem to be plug in’s available & depending on what plotter you have then the cutting software supplied with the plotter will work with some of them.
Print & cut is something I wouldn’t start with, problem is most of the printers need to be run on a very regular basis to prevent the ink drying & blocking heads, some have a standby mode to help prevent this happening but that wastes ink as it ends up in a waste bottle.
Personally I would build the print side of the business using a trade printer & look at buying a set up once you have a reasonable volume of printed work each month.

I had a similar problem when I started out a few months back, wanting to keep the mac but finding the PC better catered for with software. In the end went down the Graphtec line and using Illustrator for mac with the graphtec plugin to cut direct from the design.

Plus the benefit of going with illustrator is you can always update to a pc version further down the line and your current design work will swap across without problem, mind you cant imaging anyone going back to a pc after a long time on a mac.
