  • can someone help please with pantone to vinyl match?

Posted by Dave Harrison on 25 March 2007 at 18:10

Ok first of all forgive me for posting this on a Sunday. . . I shouldn’t be working but I’m a bit stressed out with a job I’ve got on over then next couple of weeks. I have a small fleet of vehicles to brand plus some interior work. Designers colour spec is Pantone 651 light blue grey. . to match stationary and existing branding etc etc. .

I’ve checked all my swatches and haven’t come close to a match, any suggestions / compromises ? ? oh and to make it interesting it has to be cast and conformable !

I don’t really want to print 50m of vinyl. .

    Thanks is advance

    Dave 🙂

Hi Marcella thanks for having a look anyway. . . . I’ve got the feeling this is going to be a pain. . . guess it would be too much to ask for the graphic designers to see what stock colours exist in the first place ! They are going to cost their client a fortune !

I know avery can match about a 1000 pantone colours ( sods law it won’t include this one ) maybe give spandex a call in the morning.

    Thanks again

    Dave 😀

    Hi Dave

I think you’ll have to print it. Its not too much of a problem, just takes a little time.

We did loads last year to wrap some buses. We printed a little extra and hold it in stock for when they prang them which they do quite a lot.

Sending up a couple of metres of pre-printed vinyl is quite a nice little earner as no-one else can supply it! 😀

    Cheers. Nick.

    Hi Nick

I was hoping i’d only have to use printed vinyl as a last resort. Mainly because I don’t have a printer. ( I agree nice little earner for the guy that does my printing ! ) If printed its going to need a good laminate which would all push the price up.
Also what are your thoughts on printing vinyl to make a colour up, will it age ok ? Won’t any discolouration or fading would stickout like a sore thumb with a single colour rather than an imagine which be nature has many different tones and shades

Avery will match the pantone colour I need, but it’s going to cost me about £1100 a roll + vat ! ( need about 50 metres at 1200 )
Got a meeting with the client in the morning so I will see what they want to do.

    Hi Dave

A print should age OK but as you say any flaws in printing are much more noticeable in a solid colour rather than an image.

The price from Avery is pretty good if you compare it to a laminated print onto cast.

    Cheers. Nick.
