it activates the glue on the back, gives it a better bite on the surface. use a paint stripper gun. if none, hair dryer, but dont do that often 😉

thanks lot anything thats saves me a bit of money!!! and i won’t do it too often (or for a paying customer 😳 )

If you’re using a fairly soft vinyl you’ll have no worries. Mactac 8300, for example, is very good for short term banner use. Just keep it rolled and don’t fold the banner.

I always use Oracal 651 on banners.
I despise MacTac anything. (except their felt squeegees)
The banner blanks that I use are Bandanna Banners, the kind you cut to size.
I have used HP vinyl too, I didn’t know there was a special banner vinyl.
Other than that, I paint enamel-receptive banners from US Banner Corp.
Big G is right about the rolling.

Hi guys, DONT roll it , banner Vinyl is very heavily plasticized, when a banner is rolled , stored , straightened etc in different temperatures the PVC moves so the banner Vinyl needs to as well.
Regular vinyl is far more stable (You don’t want normal vinyl shrinking etc) so if thats applied then the banner is rolled the banner stretches , when you un-roll it the banner goes back to its original shape but the vinyl remains stretched and you may”Piping” on the vinyl.
If you’re keeping it flat for 1 day though normal vinyl will be fine -
hm. interesting cammy, so if we can’t roll the banner with banner vinyl, how do we post it to the customer?
I remember a customer returning a banner vinyl that I guess Banner Box did and it was recked, we kinda blamed the storage of it and just printed a replacement (+ charge).
the heating tip is interesting

You have got me thinking now!! the banner is going to be 3mtrs long so it will have to be folded or rolled to fit it in the car ????
So am i best applying the vinyl just before its needed or can i get away with tomorrow (the banner is need on Saturday) how to get it there is another problem???
Confused

I’ve never had any problem with ordinary banner vinyl over a short period
I’ve had banners come back for adjustments to dates after six months or so and looking at the vinyl it showed no signs of crinkling or piping.
It is best over the long term to use banner vinyl though

Not so confused -
I did a couple of “banners” at work more than a year ago. They were banner material, but they were more like flags than a banner. I will post a picture of them when I get back to my desk were I have the file. I printed them on our Gerber Edge on the normal material we use for signs and they are still up there with no problems. They have never been rolled up or moved though so maybe that is why they are okay. The vinyl was Gerber 220 vinyl.

I could be wrong here …. but I have read Cammys post and understood it as:
Don’t roll a banner if you have used regular vinyl as regular vinyl can shrink. If using banner vinyl then it should be ok as the banner vinyl is made to move more freely with the banner material ?
😀
Carrie …. not confused yet but soon could be if Cammy says I am wrong 😕

going back to dougies original post is this not a one day free banner so it really doesn’t matter abour vinyl quailty just how it looks for it’s” one day of fame” 😛

:lol1: Yeah good point Lynn, actually forgot to add aswell that we have used regular vinyl on banners before and rolled them up for delivery after getting a last minute order. They had them up for months and they looked ok … they were happy to leave them up till the council took them down. We always tell the client if we have used it based on short term use.
For a single day use it should be ok …. you are not alone in using regular vinyl on banners …. 😀 crikey I would be well shocked if it cracked, peeled etc after 24 hours use 😮
-
Carrie — you are spot on — not rolling it only referred to Normal vinyl , banner vinyl is fine, we always recommend to keep it as flat as stress free as possible for 24 hours while the adhesive cures properly.
Cheers

…perhaps you can substitute the banner for a kite if you can’t roll it?
I always roll my banners, never had a comeback, as stated earlier I use Oracal 651.

the banner was fine for the day….thanks guys
However i am going totest how long it does last!!!! so far it has been rolled up in the back of the car in the sun until today and its fine so i am going to punish it a bit more because if i can get away with normal vinyl it will save me having to hav any duplicate vinyl in stock
