  • Can I print on Vinyl with a Desk-jet Printer?

Hope I’m in the right forum?

I’m asking this question away from work, so i cant just go and test it.
Is it possible to print on vinyl with a Desk-jet Printer?

    I’m thinking of purchasing a A3 HP Desk-jet printer,
But would i be able to print on to vinyl with it.
And if so will it stay? (Dry not Smudge)

    If not what can ?
I cant afford any big printer / plotter.
But curious if it can be done or what i would need.

    Pros – Cons ?

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Hi Mark

You can’t print onto normal sign vinyl with a desktop printer, but you can get coated vinyls that can be, you will need to laminate the print as well.

Look for vinyls with waterproof coatings, Hexis, 3M, HP and some others do it, Victory design also do one but I found that water got in at the edges and the print ran under the laminate.

Also get a printer with pigmented inks, this will help with water fastness, I think a few of the newer models have & the Epsons with the hexicrome inks are I think.
Pantone have just brought out a range of inks for some of the larger Epsons including the A3 ones, they claim the inks are more vibrant and are UV stable.

    Hope this helps

    Wow Cheers,

    There’s my bubble burst.
But i guess i had to hear it and i would rather hear it than pay for it.

Interesting the answer is no but there are options?
    Coated vinyl etc.

    Lots to think about again.

Saved me clicking on “Buy Now”.

So its there a product out there low budget that can print on vinyl?
    I’m even more curious now.

My thoughts were to produce quality prints on vinyl which could speed up doing small logos or Quick Pro mo signs.
But being able to stick them to a inside / outside window.

Sorry I’m not too clear, suppose I’m not sure what I’m looking for.

Any direction for a budget solution would be appreciated.

    Now I’m thinking Paper Laminator.

    A3 Laminator £60 – £120
    A3 Printer £ 300

And like bowber mentioned if i did want it to stick,
there are vinyl’s out there that can do the job.

    But I’m still undecided 🙁

    Which way to go.
