    Help !!!

My customer wants a wooden sign made out of Redwood or a wood stained to a similar colour as redwood.

The problem is he wants his logo engraved in to it but must be his dark red colour and must have the soft edges as per logo attached.

I think I have seen engraved wood with a similar effect but can’t be sure. Can this effect be achieved and can anybody suggest some ideas to make the red name stand out from the red wood?

    Any ideas or suggestions please

    Thanks in advance

    Warren

Depend on if you want to sub this out or not, as these signs can be very very expensive.
Ideally made from Canadian cedar I think.
The firm who does my routing work is one of the leading suppliers of this kind of sign in Europe, they are all sandblasted & made to a exceptionally high standard.
Im not sure about the faded effect, I would assume they would feather it out using varying degrees of lighter paint bus whatever, they would be able to do it.
let me know if you want contact details etc.

Is this the kind of thing you mean

    Hi Steve

Yes that’s what I mean but will have to find out about the fade effect.

Please could you let me know who your supplier is as it is something I will have to sub out.

    cheers

I’ve been looking around the boards and found this link with laser engraved signs (the wolf and face signs in particular)

    http://www.uksignboards.com/viewtopic.p … ght=wooden

I was wondering if this would be suitable for the redwood logo I posted for exterior use?

Anybody know about this or can make any suggestions?

    cheers

Not a trade secret as such Peter but didnt want to post his details on here just in case he didnt appreciate it, as I know he gets extremely busy having such a niche market.
    I will PM you though

    no worries Steve,

cant see why he wouldnt appreciate a free plug, if he is so busy, he could increase his prices with demand,

    thanks for the PM though

    Hi guys

Just bumping this a bit 😳

Does anybody know if this effect would be doable on a large wooden sign to achieve the redwood logo effect and would it last outdoors?

Just thought I would try find out here first before I start phoning around.

    cheers

Warren, I think you might be better off with an HDU sign rather than the redwood.
Unlike wood, it has no grain. Therefore you could get the raised up letters by sandblasting and just airbrush the fade into the background like the first pic you posted.
HDU blasts like butter, is easy to work with, and lasts a very long time. It’s pricey, but then again, so is redwood.
Another option would be to have it routered as a bitmap texture, not sure how this is done, but have seen signs done in this fashion.

Well I have now spoke to him and he says its fine for whoever wants to call him, they mush prefer to do trade work as they dont have to go and fit it increasing their manufacturing time.
Pete Ratcliffe is his name on 01503 240722.

Or search google for the grain.

Have a look at these guys Warren, http://www.thegrain.co.uk/ nice sandblasted signs.

I had a go once, with success. But sandblasting is a horrible job. You can buy the redwood yourself and cut the mask, then get someone to blast it for you though.

    Hi Steve

Have not given him a job jet, just want to sort out first if he can actually do what the customer wants and then a price to see if the customer will pay and then he’s got the job 😀

I’m hoping he can do something so I can order though
