  • Can I change a 4 colour mimaki 160 sp to 6 colour

Hi there guys I just was wondering how easy is it to swap my 4 colour 160sp to 4 colour is it as simple as flushing out and replacing inks and then using the correct profiles?

    Cheers

Sorry don’t know the machine but if it is capable of running either 6 or 8 colour then yes you can switch if over but do you really need to?

Probably best to see what support is available from the mimaki website, mutoh offer some pretty comprehensive help on things like this but before you go ahead I would make sure you can get the media profiles you need for 6 colour printing before you do anything. Will depend on which rip you are running.
Not an expert on printing but from what I have seen and read it may not be worth doing unless you are doing a lot of fine art or photographic type printing.
You will need to change some of the settings on the printer control panel but the user guide will explain this & obviuosly make changes in the rip as well.

Hi Russell, sorry I missed this post.

It really is quite a simple process and just involves buying a lm and lc cartridge. You can use the existing 2 x CMYK in the 1 x CMYKlclm layout. Make sure your waste tank is empty as it will need to empty the lines, go to maintenance and head wash and follow the control panel instructions until it says ‘set wash tool’. At this point you are expected to insert 8 x wash carts which is ideal but not essential. If you are not doing a flush out, just switch the printer off and and then back on again and it will as you what ink type you are using. Assuming you are using full solvent and not Eco, set the control panel to SS2 SOL 6COL and it will tell you to set the cartridges again. It will then continue to fill up in 6 colour.

Now it’s just down to the RIP. What RIP are you using?
