  • can i apply vinyl on a heated rear car window?

Been asked by a friends son to put a logo on the back window of his car. Will the heated window affect the vinyl. Normally I would put it on the inside but would it be better on the outside?

Sure I have seen a thread on this before but can’t find it – just get sidetracked into reading loads of other threads that catch my eye. Too much good stuff on this site!

hi dave, quick answer is no! not a problem inside or out…

my preference with application is outside. not because its much easier but more so all car windows have a tint. white on outsie stands out much better than the grey’ish tint veiwed from inside.

you can get away with it and no problems. where most obvious is when you have vinyl on the car then on window. window just looks too dark tinted in comparison.

one thing to consider though. does it have rear window wiper? if so, does the driver actually use it? if so… inside it goes 😉

    hope this helps…

Thanks for the quick response. Certainly would be easier on the outside as its a hatch back which means leaning backwards and working overhead.

I missed the obvious and hadn’t thought about the wiper. DOH!!!

We nearly always apply to the outside as Rob said earlier most glass is tinted these days and you also have the heating wires running across, as long as customer is aware it shouldn’t be a problem, if they use the wipers just make sure the glass is wet and not gritty.

If a client wants me to sign a rear window, I actually remove the wiper. I put that in my quote too, so they know and expect it.

Wiper or not, an outside application will be easier and quicker. The graphic will get ‘cooked on the glass’ on the inside, so when removing it, the heater lines will prevent you from using a blade.

Also inside, the graphic will be less obvious as the surface reflection on the glass will make it harder to see from an angle.

    Hope that is understandable 🙄
