can have opinions please on mactac vinyl?
Posted by Andrew Bennett on 9 August 2006 at 17:05Hi everyone,
Following the receipt of a mactac brochure I am considering porting over to this vinyl.
Before I do does anyone have any opinions please?I am looking at the 9800, 8900 and the 8300 series. In particular the 8300 series .

I hate MacTac!
Thankfully my supplier no longer stocks it.
It’s brittle and hard to weed.

You must be getting some dodgy vinyl Jill. I have been using Mactac for years and I love the stuff. The 9800 is brilliant and the 8300, in my opinion, is better than any mid-term vinyl I have used. Also, they have recently released some very nice new colours to the ranges.

im using lg at the moment due to its price but mac tac is brill

…I prefer Oracal to MacTac.
We call it MacCrap! hahaha
I think it was the 9800 series, the HP, a 10-yard roll of 15" perforated was under $30.
But I’d rather pay more for something that was easier to work with.
For intermediate I always use Oracal 651.
I like the 751 and 851 also, particularly how the white has a blue backing paper.
I also have used Calon II by Arlon almost exclusively for HP.
I usually only buy Gerber HP white.
I’ve tried Accucut from TrimUSA and find it to be very brittle and easy to tear while weeding.
I did use Avery for about a year, of course that was the year they had the bad vinyl and I have had to replace a few jobs due to shrinkage.
My supplier no longer sells either Avery or MacTac.

i think i was getting 610 for about £1.20 and 9800 for £1.63
but at a £1 thats great im getting 5-7 year lg for that on offer -
we use 9800 and its great, also 8300 is good but I’ve found Metamark 4 series nicer to use 😀

i used 9800 for years and i really like it, i loved the macfleet coloured wrap vinyl, and still do… one of the best wrap materials available in my opinion, but not the easiest to work with.
however, in my opinion on conformibilty (before oracal 751 became a cast) oracal had the edge over 9800. as a group member oracal also won on price. so we switched…
around 8 months ago oracal 751 became a cast and kept the prices the same. need i say more?mactac 9800 is a very good vinyl, you wont go wrong with it!

Hi,
I use all Mac Tac now even the digital.9800 is excellent and as Andy said some nice new colours,
I use a lot of the 8900 mat vinyl which is really good too.
as far as price goes I don’t bother that much as i put a certain amount of mark up on it anyway… We all moan about customers wanting signs for as little as possible then go out and try to save 5p a mtr on vinyl!!
Sorry going off on one!
Mac Tac is a good vinyl with a good range of materials and colours>
Cheers

95% of the vinyl we use is Mactac and have used it for years, very good vinyl. We use a lot of 8900 series as it is easy for valeters to remove.
9800 for anything that is going to be applied for a few years. -
I take it you used to work for the Government Neill, Everything in quadruple 😀
I have just used the new Mactac Bubble free vinyl and it is BRILLIANT!!!!!
-
I have used the 8300 in the past but changed over to image perfect 3500 as its is less brittle and weeds more easily. We only really used the mat range as it is for short term expo work, I would not use it for exterior signs as it shrinks too much.

dave re bubble free
i agree its great how ever i really found small text a problem to weed due to re vinyl comng away from the liner
how did you get on with small text and when i say small i only talking an 40mm -
You have to make sure your cutter is really sharp or else a blunt one will try to drag the cut letter away. Just cut at 10mm with new blade and no probs.

Anderson’s do mactac, been buying some reflective from them recently. good service and price so far…
i have now scrapped using Amari Glasgow after about 10 years… no disrespect to most that work there, they are a great friendly bunch. but service in the last 12 months has called it a day for me.
i don’t say that flippantly, we are only a few miles from them we have always been first drop, but nowadays we Waite 2-3 days and when we call to complain…
"(oh we forgot) would you like to pick it up or send out tomorrow." 👿 -
Hi,
Andersons are great on service and pretty good on price..Cheers
