  • Can cut vinyl letters stick to gloss painted surface ?

Posted by Gareth Howells on 10 March 2012 at 00:47

hi all, i have a customer who wants a basic sign with just cut letters, he doesnt want to have to buy boards so just wants to use the exisiting wooden sign surface which has been sanded down nicely, undercoated then gloss painted in white

he wants black letters with red letters overlayed to give a kind of shadowing effect.

i told him i would enquire about whether vinyl lettering would stick to the surface thus saving having to buy boards …

we normally buy vinyl from mdp supplies in the wirral area

    any advice is greatly appreciated

    thanks 😀

    Absolutely.

They should last as long as the paint job.

Don’t try to use cheap vinyl though 5-7 yr or better.

Indecently, you’ll get better results if you heat bond them on later with a heat gun / gas gun.

Vinyl is a versatile and lightweight material with a gloss finish. Vinyl lettering will stick to any non-porous surface. High Quality solvent based permanent acrylic adhesive and a light weight material with a gloss finish and dimensional stability than other materials u can try it and it is mostly used for signmaking

:police: Please take a moment to look over our Board Rules.

Vinyl will not stick to ANY non-porous surface. PTFE, polypropylene, nylon etc all resist adhesives.
Also, several new paints on the market have a non-stick / easy clean additive which reduces the adhesion.
