can anyone tell me why the vinyl wont feed through my pc600?
Posted by widget on 27 October 2005 at 22:56hi everyone.
not been around much as i have ventured into other things.
got a big problem with my pc 600 and wandered if anyone can help?i had a job to do this sunday so i decided to get them cut ready but my machine started playing up halfway through the first cut,it was doing ok then it stopped feeding the vinyl through so it was cutting in the same place all the time,i stopped it and tried feeding it through but the motor is turning but the vinyl is not moving,if i take the vinyl out and switch the machine on the rollers move as normal but as soon as its under load it wont move.
its like its slipping or something.
i cant afford to get it fixed just yet as i was just about to put it up for sale as i am hardly using it anymore.
anyone had this problem before ?

i ve never had my hands on a 600 but there is a clutch mech that drives the cutting separate from the print rollers. which explains your problem but sorry not a cure

thanks for the reply,i took the top cover off and put it back on again looks too complex for me. 🙁 looks like my sign making days are over

Stab in the dark here…….grub screw in a drive gear loose………..enough frictions to turn without load……..under load the shaft rotates.
Just an Idea.
Tim.

dont see any grub screws n the cogs only on the magnetic drive thing but they are tight

just come off the phone to roland and they want £250 just to look at it 🙁
anyone interested in buying a signwriting business cheap ?

Hi, sorry to hear about the Roland issues…
we have a section for For Sales etc. When the moderators wake up, they may destroy that post.http://www.uksignboards.com/viewforum.php?f=26
I am pretty sure you get some offers.

Do make sure that the vinyl isn’t rolling itself back on to the roll as it returns after printing.
The PC600 seems to be completely feeble at pulling vinyl off the roll.

Im sure Widget was saying what he did about anyone wanting to buy a sign writing business in a lighthearted-stressed-out-cant-get-the-fluffing-cutter-to-work way!!v :lol1:
Widget if you do a search on here for engineer or repair or something related, you might find some contact details for other repair peeps …. I know members in the past have asked for details on repair services for their cutters….. might be worth a call if you find the details???
I will probably do a search shortly anyway and if i find something i will add it to here for you?

Hi widget, long time no see!
can you feed he vinyl through manually?
if so you are probably looking at a software/firmware problem as apposeed to a mechanical one. -
thnaks for the help everyone but i am still getting nowhere 🙁
hi peter
i cant get the vinyl to go at all, even a little piece of vinyl will not move.
if i try pulling it with the rollers clamped it wont budge.but the rollers will not move the vinyl at all,i am just about to put it on ebay for spares. -
Hi Widget
Have you actualy UNPLUGGED your PC60 ? Turn Off, UnPlug, Wait, Plug-in again, turn on again to re-boot the PC60. -
yes,i have had it disconnected from the mains for a day then plugged it back in,still the same, must be something wrong with it

Mate had this same thing happen with my PC50 a few years back. The motors are really poorly designed and don’t like resistance.
As someone has said here, the problem may be the clutch mechanism. It does not take much to break at all. Just before it happened, did the tape get jammed by chance?
Anyway, whatever caused it, you are up for a new drive motor more than likely. Talking to the technicians when mine failed, they are pretty fragile in the stepper motor dept. Mine was under warranty at the time so it didn’t cost me. I sold it not long after it went out of warranty either.
Sorry couldn’t be more help.
Cheers

thnaks shane.
the vinyl never got jammed and it was pulled off the roll before i started.
the motors are still working but its probably the clutch like you said.
dont know anything about them, someone on rolands forums said it could be one of the plastic cogs stripped or needing adjustment as they are on springs or something.
its too much above my head. -
shane just for your interest the pc 600 has a totally different drive mech to the 50 or 60 that’s how it cuts twice the speed as the 50 or 60 but prints at a higher res. hence a clutch to change between print & cut drives.
i am having to put the max inks in my 540 ex tomorrow.

sorry chris, I was not aware of that. Originally I thought we were talking PC60, missed the fact we were talking 600 series. My mistake.
You should go straight to Techink Chris, I have never looked back mate 😛
