  • can anyone tell me why my PC60 wont pick up ribbons?

Posted by Kev on 10 June 2004 at 21:11

Just switched the pc60 on this morning and it refuses to pick up any ribbons, it was working fine Tuesday 😕

The part (dont know what its called) that comes out to take the cartridge only comes out about half way and is making a horible grinding sort of noise 😮

Tried moving the carts around and then tried new

If anybody can help on this one ??? (all I seem to asking 😀 for)

    Cheers

Sounds like a serious problem 😕 🙁 It may be a mechanical fault of some description, or may be a sign the head has blown or something along those lines 🙁

The part that picks up the cartridge is a white screw like thread that aligns with the central top indentation and literaly “winds” the cartridge onto the head. Sometimes the alignment can go out and the “white screw” ends up off centre when trying to pick up the cartidge. You can see this happening. If you watch the cartidge being picked up check that the screw is exactly in the centre of the cartridge when it begins turning. If it isn’t you will get the grinding noise you described and you will see that the screw is not dead centre.

This should fix itself if you shut the power off to the printer and switch it back on again – the head head should re-align itself properly when the machine is switched back on. If it doesn’t, check that the drive mechanism which runs the head left and right hasn’t developed some problem that is causing the misalignment.

I had the very same problem two days ago which was cured simply by switching off and back on again 😀

Try it again today – you may be pleasantly surprised to find the problem has resolved itself 😉

Tried everything now apart from hitting it with a hammer. So have given in and took it down to Roland in Swansea 🙁 . It only came back 2 months ago for a new head. Hope it is a head alignment prob as they said the would do it free of charge (i am not betting on it though)

Thank you all for the help (again)

    Cheers

    Hi

I did some freelance work for a company with a PC60 and the same thing happened to me whilst operating. It was an alignment problem which seems to have happened to them a couple of times. There is a set process for realigning which consisted of take the cover off and pressing sequence of buttons putting a tape in each in turn. Check the manual but I had a feeling they rang the supplier who gave them instructions over phone. It only takes 2-3 minutes to do. Give your supplier/roland a ring for the sequence. If any problems I will try and get the instructions
