  • can anyone tell me why ink levels are not being recognised?

    Hi All,
We have a Cadet plus, and have recently started using the 440ml. ink cartridges to save money. However, it appears that the printer doesn’t recognise the ink levels to warn when a cartridge is about to run out (as it does with the 220ml. inks)
We’ve been printing a 6 metre long vinyl sign this morning, when the yellow ink ran out. However, the printer just carries on doing its job as if all cartridges had ink in them. The result was nearly 5 metres of vinyl wasted plus all the ink used and we have to start printing the job again.
Does anyone know if their is a way to re-calibrate the "ink remaining" setting so the machine stops printing the job untill a new 440ml. cartridge is fitted.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

We have the same problem here, don’t know the solution yet…you can certainly open the cartridge plastic box and check if there is any ink left in there…

Well I opened the empty cartridge and there’s definitely no ink left. The printer thinks there is because if I put it back in, it starts printing again in the 3 remaining colours only !
I suppose we could take out each cartridge and shake them to see how full they are before we start each print job. A solution from the supplier might be to have the inner bag transparent, along with the end of the cartridge, or better still, have an “Ink remaining” icon for both 220ml and 440ml cartridges on the menu.
    Over to you B&P ?

Not seen the 440ml cartridges but on the 220’s there is a plastic clip that is supposed to come out the side of the cartridge and push a micro switch to tell the printer that the cartridge is empty.

Well I got the idea how to measure the ink in 440ml catridges…when you use them, te printer thinks its a 220ml cartridge and is measuring 220ml – 0ml…when the ink level is showing zero (220ml of ink used) you just pull the cartridge out and back in the printer…it then thinks its a new 220ml cartridge and starts to measure back from 220ml…

By the way how much are the 440ml ones. Is there much of a saving?

    I’m paying £99 for 440ml and £65 for 220ml from B&P so a saving of around 30%.

Davidimo, your idea sounds interesting so I’ll give it a try, thanks for the input.

hi all, its about the same prices for the JV3 too.
The 220/440ml carts have the side tab and the chip. The way it works on the JV3 is we have an indicator in the menus that says 9=Full and 1=Near empty. So when indicator is 1 and tab pushes this sensor then the machine thinks the cart is dead.

However the JV3 now has an adjustable limit for when the sensor cuts off the cart. However never used it as you must never get AIR in the tubes.

When we changed from 220ml to 440ml the JV3 has to be told and will do an ink purge routine, it then expects only 440ml. Doesn’t the Uniforms have a similar procedure?

B&P haven’t posted for a while, any comments if your reading this?

why don’t you use the refillable clear cartridges so you can see when they are getting low and top them up from the 1000ml bottles……just a thought as the litre bottles of ink are £140 😕

Yes, we did try these refillable cartridges recently, but we seemed to get air bubbles in them which affected the print quality.
Was told by B&P not to use them with the Cadet, so we switched to the 440ml. cartridges. Mind you, the price of the litre bottles is reasonable when you relate them to the others.
    220ml costs £30.80 and 440ml. £61.60

Do you use these on the Cadet George, what make are they?

£99 for the 440ml is still a lot better than the 220ml ones though.
