  • can anyone recommend me a vinyl supplier ?

Posted by Mike Fear on 22 April 2005 at 12:50

Having just been royally fxxked about my usual supplier and lost a £300+ job because of it, I’m looking for a reliable new supplier.

    Ideally someone who :

Carries a good colour range of 4 and 7 year vinyls
Wont make me bend over and grab my ankles on the price
    Does quick delivery
Also carries specialist finishes like mirror, brushed etc…

Anyone have any personal reccomendations they can suggest ?

P.S. Please dont suggest one that begins in ‘M’ and ends in ‘K’ as they are the ones who are just losing my custom !

Thanks all – just to expand on the problem I had ( cos it’ll probably cheer you all up ! ).

As part of a design, needed some brushed gold vinyl, only 1m so stuck it on my order – supplier sent brushed silver, so I phoned, said I needed it quickly and can they send out the 1m of gold asap.

They promised they would, a couple of days later, a box arrives – in it is about 20m of some horrible red colour – said gold on the delivery note – how hard is it for the person in the warehouse to pick 1 item !!!

Getting a bit desperate now as customer is getting antsy as he needed the job for the weekend, and I kep telling him what I was being told that the vinyl would be here.

Phoned them again on thurs when the red turned up – very apologetic again, said they would send out the gold by express that day so I would have it before 10 a.m. yesterday – this would just give me enough time to get everything finished, and send it out so the customer would get it at 9am today.

Sat around until 12 yesterday, nothing arrived – phoned supplier, bloke assured me it had been sent and he’d phone the courier straight away and find out where it was.

12.30 hadnt heard anything, phoned again, spoke to a girl who said the same as above.

1pm, heard nothing, phoned again, spoke to another girl who tells me it hadnt been sent for some reason !

So all in all their complete ineptitude meant

    1. Customer cancelled the job for £340 and now thinks I’m completely crap – prob thought I was lying about ordering the vinyl, or was on stop with the supplier for not paying bills ( which wouldnt happen as every order gets paid in advance ).

    2. Wasted all morning yesterday when I had other stuff I could have been doing out and about.

    3. I know have the hassle of finding another supplier.

The worst of it all was them lying to me saying it had been sent as their telesales people must have looked on the system and seen it wasnt there and just couldnt be bothered trying to sort it out.

I think what I am going to do is inventory all the vinyl I have in stock from them ( a good few hundreds worth ) and phone their manager and get him to arrange to have it all back and refund me for being such tossers.

I’ve been using Hexis for years for most of my sign vinyl.

    Good quality and price.

They sort out the occasional errors too!

    Mike,

Is your problem company one that has purple as their corporate colour ?
I use Cox plastics for 80% of my vinyl (Avery700PF) and they have never made a mistake yet. A pretty good record I think for any supplier 😀 I also use Amari for Mactac and Hexis, Grafityp, Spandex or Metamark for additional supplies.

Cox Plastics Avery for us, with some Europoint Oracal as well. Both very reliable, Europoint will even deliver same day locally if you phone early enough.

damn, i like Metas digital print range as it is stunning to print. We use spandex / Avery ranges as practically trouble free for over 10 years and great colours.
