can anyone help with cutting problem and a Roland please?

I dont have a roland, but "off set" is common to all cutters. Briefley it is the distance between the tip off the blade and the centre of the blade shaft. The cutter takes its datum points from the centre of the blade, and as different types of blades have different angles and thicknesses the offset compensates for this.
The blade should be like a "loose tooth," it rotates in the holder.

It should only just protrude from the holder only slightly more than the thickness of material you are cutting. Set the offset to the reccomended for the blade you are using (.5 seems ok but like I say I do not have a roland)

as you have changed the blade holder ? the other common problem with some older rolands is the up down mech can become off centre and bind a little causing the head to move before the knife has gone down. so the loop is not closed.

I had the same problem, but not on every letter. I bought a new blade, new blade holder and a cutting strip….none of which fixed the problem. I ended up driving to Bristol to Roland UK techincal workshop (to avoid carriage charges) and paying £45 for 10 minutes work. The engineer told me that the carriage drive cable had worked loose. The blade wasn’t returning to the point it started at on some letters because there was a bit of slack in the cable. Then I drove home! Around 350 to 400 mile round trip to spend and hour in Bristol!

BTW it was a Roland PNC1210.

Apparently theres a bolt on the back of the carriage that worked loose. I think the top cover needs to come off. I’ll check when I get to my hotel tonight….I brought it with me because the day job sent me to London and I’d only be bored and needing to finish some jobs!
