Please help, we have a Versacamm VP300 we is used for garment vinyl printing and small stickers, but in my wisdom I thought I would have ago at making some signs for ourselves with maybe in the future changing the graphics on our vans. Not so easy is it, firstly the material that I used was a roll that was part of the package when we bought the machine the only markings I can see on it are LG Chem Printing Film Vizuon.
Firstly I printed a sticker 600x 400 with a cut box, I tried to apply to a sheet of foamex type material wetting the foamex first as I have done this before with small stickers with success, however this time and three other attempts I just could not do it, the best I got was all distorted where the vinyl had stretched. Then I tried the same method but this time applied some application tape to the printed face a little better but still stretched and it took some of the print off. I would like to learn how to do this as having the printer it would be nice to do are own stuff.
Also could you advise on a good all round print vinyl to buy I would like the best as we do sometimes supply stickers to builders for site signs that they stick themselves would a thicker material help?

Did you allow your print to dry properly before attempting to apply it? Allow 24 hours to dry otherwise you will experience problems with the material becoming too plastic and stretchy.

I uses oracal 3651 which is a good all round print vinyl.

    Would you,
    apply app tape
    apply wet or dry
start at one corner and peel the backing as you apply
    Thanks Kevin

Foamex is quite easy to apply dry with a little practice. Practice with some off cut vinyl before trying it with printed vinyl. Remove all of the backing first then apply it down the centre before working outwards to either edge lifting the vinyl as you go to allow air to escape.

Using tape is useful if you don’t have time to let it dry pproperly first. The tape helps to prevent the vinyl from distorting before it has properly dried out.

just to add to Phills words above,

I always stick the substrate down to the workbench to stop it moving when applying decals, especially flood coating like you’re doing with a large sticker. i normally just use masking tape folded over iteslf to make a few sticky pads, it means you can use both hands to apply the vinyl instead of trying to hold a moving panel with your elbows!
