    Rich,

It depends which fabric vinyl you have, best to ask whoever supplied the vinyl. The stuff I have from Grafityp you cut in reverse then having weeded you apply the design directly to the garment using the backing paper to protect the face of the press.

I apply using the same method as ramjam; reverse cut, weed, apply to garment with backing side up & away you go. Some material I have to wait till it cools down before peeling away backing, some I have to peel away while still warm, best to double check with your supplier? 😀

99% of cut vinyls are peeled cold. Some do peel a little better when they are slightly warm.

ah well it was easy to cut and weed but think i had the iron to hot as i have melted some of the text
would it be better to have a cloth on the backing then iron that , i have never been good the an iron

a while back when i used to do this type of stuff i would also use a piece of brown paper when ironing or using the clamp heat press… i also tried plain old A4 the browning of an A4 lets you know if your over doing it when using the iron.. let it cool also before removing the plastic backing.

    Yep,

you are supposed to cover the transfer with a tefflon sheet, available from traget transfers or express.

What I also do, once the transfer is applied, remove the clear carrier, and give it a quick press again. It helps the material to mold itself to the grain of the garment.

If you want any scraps, rich, I got quite a few pieces, they`re ok for breast logos.

    cheers kev

I read somehwre (on here?) that you can buy Teflon Sheets from Asda, I think there used for baking, at a fraction of the cost charged by the companies you mention.

Yep thats right Martin, it was my handy tip, after just spending £25 on one from the trade suppliers, i was gutted to be picking up some tinfoil and there along side it is a teflon sheet for £2.99!!!!!!!!!!

    off to Asda we go!!

ah better result thanks to all the suggestions thanks all and i think turning the steam off helped 😳
becky if you remove the backing to get the vinyl to go in to the grain more do you just cover with your teflon sheet on or,am i barking up the wrong tree
