  • can anyone help with a few PC60 Cutting Problems please?

Posted by Jim McManus on 21 August 2006 at 21:53

    Hi Everyone.
I have been a registered user for a while but this is probably the first time I have posted.
I am using a PC60 and the old PC which was used with it recently gave up the ghost. Luckily a computer friend managed to retrieve all the relevant files and I have now hooked it up to another PC. The new PC uses Windows XP and I have managed to get it to cut vinyl, but I think I must be missing a few settings. Tried to cut window film at a length of about 1.5m. but it goes to about 1.3m and then cuts no further – it just cuts along this line continually. Have set paper size to 610 x 2000 and fitted within box in preview but no joy. At first thought vinyl may have been jammed, but done the same on next attempt. Don’t know if I have explained this very well, but I hope so.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. 😕

What software are you using to run your cutter/printer?

    Hi Phill,

I am using Corel 12. Old system was Corel 7, and windows 95!, so very old. Thing is I bought the whole system from a friend a few years ago and so it was all set up and working. Now that I’ve changed things over I am getting a wee bit stuck.

Are you using the windows print manager to run the colorcam? If so do you have the correct driver installed (windows xp?). Go to the roland website to download the correct driver

    Hi Phill,

Yes downloaded the driver and installed it. It does print ok other than this problem with the length. It seems to not want to go past a certain point – around 1.3m or so. Anything beyond that just results in a terrible scoring of the vinyl along this point. I dont know if its within the setup in the print manager. Think I’ve reset everything, but don’t seem like it.

if i remember correctly the old 95 driver stoped at 1200 mm if set at 600 dpi if set to a lower res then it would cut longer i know its cutting only not printing but that is what happened.
the xp driver as far as i know overcome this test with old vinyl and take the knike out.

    Hi Chris,

That sounds very interesting. I know the res was set to 600, so that may well be the case. I will toddle off and give that a try.

Cheers Chris and Phill. Will let you know how this works out and hopefully be able to post a pic of the fitted vinyl very soon.

By the way, expect a few questions in the near future. I have been dabbling with signs for a while now, but always been kinda part time because I had a pub as a main business.
I have now sold the pub and looking to make the signs my main business. Hopefully I will even make enough money to buy some up to date gear soon!

    Thanks again,

    Jim

My PC60 also only works up to 1300mm using Win98
I have learned to live with it, just don’t do any jobs that are bigger.
Mostly done small stickers so it didn’t matter but got a versacamm now so it hardly gets used nowadays.

Yes Chris you are correct, if you lower the resolution it should allow you to cut longer lengths.

the link below is a very good resource for PC60 info. it has drivers / manuals firmware etc, also pdf guides that explain most things about the machines if you look under manuals and bulletins.

I would have been forever trying to suss that out.

    Cheers.
