    Hi all

Can anyone with Photoshop knowledge help me please with a cut line problem I have.

I have an image supplied to me as a jpeg, it is the letters ?07 which have a 3d effect fill on them with a solid black outline. I have to print 50 of them
and they need a cut line around each letter.

When I use the magic wand tool it puts a clip path around each pixel, so the cut is very rough.
Is there a way to achieve a smooth cut line around each letter as if it was cutting ‘normal’ text.

Any help would be much appreciated as I dont fancy hand cutting 50 decals.

    thanks

    Neill

Neill, what software do you usually use for print and cut? You should be able to open the image in just about any software if it is a jpeg you have been supplied, if it were a psd then I could understand why you would have to use photoshop.

    Hi Martin

thanks for the reply, we use the following software/machines

    Jester XL printer
    Gerber P2C 1600 cutter
    Mistral Rip software.

Our software we use most of the time is Omega. If I was edging them all adding a cut line is simple but each decal is 300mm high by 500mm long this would use a lot of foils. So I really need to use the Jetster to make them

    i also have Photoshop & Corel 12.

I was told by Spandex (I cant get hold of the training person today) that i have to put a clip path around the image before importing into the RIP.

This is the first time I have had to print a lot of decals which need cutting out, usually we just hand cut anything if there is only a few.

Yes you can draw a path around the image with the pen tool and convert it to a clipping path. It’s a bit fiddly to do as you have to make the path a selection then save it as a path etc.

Look on google for some step by step tutorials.

Might be easier to import it in to your sign software and add the contour cut path that way though.

One way i have found in photoshop is select – modify – expand. Depending on the image size will deter the pixels that work well with this.
When you go to paths this will generate a better cut line. I have found it works better with tiff files.

    Cheers
    Karl.
