can anyone help me with set-up issues and plotter?
Posted by Chris Tansell on 15 January 2007 at 11:18Hi Guys!
I have a CREATION Cutting Plotter connected to a PC running Artcut 6. Well, it worked when I bought it (the cutter and the PC) and it stopped when the PC was "fixed". I think I need to reinstall the software, but I have not got the original media. I have the Artcut6 directory and in this directory are 6 others:
gbtk
help
lib
newtuku
progeng
samplesIn progeng are a whole heap of files, one of which is Artcut6.exe
When I run this file, I get the message "Please insert the install CD-R, then press OK!"
The PC is running WIN98.Any ideas what could be wrong, or where I could get a copy of the original media?
Thanks and regards,Chris

Can’t you get hold of the original disc from where you bought it?
If not, then I see no alternative other than to buy a new copy of the prog.
-
It’d be good if I could…. Have asked the guy I got it from, but he is "still looking"…
-
it worked till the pc was FIXED ! what was wrong with pc and what was done to Fix it ?
-
HI Alan,
It ran out of disk space so it was ghosted onto a bigger one. That, plus the usual spyware/adware/temp file/rubbish cleanup. Nothing that should have hurt a WIN98 PC??!??! -
Chris,
If you bought the PC with artcut already installed and a subsequent clean up has stopped it working I can only assume that somethings not right legally.
And your man is still looking for the discs!!!!!
I would be asking for your money back.
Not being a software expert i’m probably wrong but …….. -
Do you still have the old hard drive that you could put back in and use the new disc as a 2nd drive and put all your files on the new disc to free up the old one?
-
Hi Chris
If all else fails I may have a win 98 disc around here somewhere regards Mike -
If the original HDD was cloned then you should have a perfect copy of your original HDD on the new drive so everything should still work the same. Like Nick I wouldn’t have bothered cloning the drive, I would have just added a second HDD and transfered some of the files. If you still have the original drive try putting it back in and see if it still works. If it does just add the second or new drive as a slave and transfer some of your files.

cloning another disc then trying to run apps from the new disc can cause probs because when its installed originally it updates your registry to the app on that disc, when you try to run the same app from another disc the pc cannot find the registry info for the app on the disc so wont work! put the old hd in remove junk so its not full and it should work ok. 😉
-
Alan, sorry to have to disagree with you but if the HDD has been cloned properly using something like Acronis True Image, Norton Ghost or Drive Wizard Pro then there should be no problems at all.
However if the contents of the programs folder has just been copied onto another HDD then this is a completly different thing and yes there will be problems.

the reason i mentioned this martin was i did the exact same thing last month, put a larger hd in and used it as my main hd, i just copied the old hd all to the new bigger drive and most my apps didnt work when i changed the ribbon cable over on the 2 hd’s and used my original smaller hd as the main boot up hd everything worked again 😕 i havent used those apps you mention martin but i will deffo take your word for it as the way i did it just copied the full drive to the other didnt work 🙄

Alan, no problem. I repair and sell laptops so I use this sort of software on a regular basis. You would actually be surprised just how many people copy a one drive to another because they think that is all you need to do. I have had to sort out a few problems for people who have done this so know how easily it is done.
The other common problem is people taking their HDD out of one computer and putting it in another computer so they don’t have to re-install all the software which normally results in a message telling them that because of hardware changes windows must be re-validated within 3 days. -
OK – Got the disks. Reinstalled the software. No joy.
How can I tell if the PCUT is well? Is there something I can send it via serial to see?Is there any "test" routine I can run from the panel??
Does the Artcut software have any requirements that can’t be met by XP?
This is all really sad… All this gear and no fancy-shaped vinyl….
Cheers,
Chris.

Its taken 12 months to get the sofware? 😮 What have you been doing in the mean time?
Can’t help with the software unfortunately.

I’m guessing it’s an XP issue- I looked at Artcut a while ago, and I think it was designed for Win95.
You could try & run Artcut on XP in win95 or win98 emulation mode- see if that helps.
(right-click the quicklaunch icon, go to properties, emulation & work it out from there- it’s pretty simple)I have not used artcut- I am onoy making an educated guess- I had a friend who bought a p-cut & artcut, and after five months of anguish, it still does not go. He’s ‘in conference’ with the dealer who imported it to try & solve the issues.
(edited to add Rolands & Corel works fine for us!)

ArtCut works on XP I had it running on XP.
Your COM port settings are probably set up wrong. You got baud rate etc etc. I forget.
The joys of owning these machines.
