can anyone help me with media detection errors please?
Posted by Rebecca on 25 September 2007 at 16:20Hi there
We have a JV3-250 and are getting problems with the detection of the media.
The head slows right down when trying to detect the media and then errors with code 52.
We have wiped the encoder strip which briefly corrected the problem but it seems to be having the same error again.
Any ideas?

I just had a look in the Maintenance Manual for the JV3-160S, Error 51 is the last error listed, no 52.
But as you describe, doesn’t look like its detecting media. I think the JV3 will scan the until it finds media then errors with "No Media" and not 52.. i check in a mo
I think it slowly checks for the right side, then goes seeking for the left side and then comes across until it finds something.

same as my manual, no error 52!! It comes up with "error 52 media set".
When you first measure the material, the head is going all the way over to the left hand side of the printer(as it usually does) and then comes back, as it hits the media it slows down and then doesn’t seem to be able to detect the media.
I have tried different media widths and it also seems to slow down at different points across the media.

Rebecca do you have sunlight or direct bright light shining on you media detect points ? this can sometimes confuse it ? strange but true, just a thought 🙄

Hi Lynn
No sunlight coming through.
It had been working fine all day, I changed the media and started to get problems.
It weird because the head slows down to a near standstill as it runs over the media on the way back to the station but its in a different place each time I retry!

have you tried talking to their technical help ? spect you have I have no other ideas sorry 🙄

Have you tried cleaning the media sensors – one at the back media feed area and one in the head carriage?

yeah that sounds like unable to find the media, it does slow right down.
The cable that links it follows thru the damper area and then connect behind the head (i think), have you dislodged that cable. (you have to take the black head cover off to see)
I think, not sure… if you put the JV3 into Engineer mode, I PM you the procedure if you don’t know it… you might be able to detect and then run the JV3 without the paper sensor, it may go to ‘maximum’ width, i am not sure.

Thanks for all the suggestions, sorted now!!
The sensor that points down onto the media had shifted slightly, just enough not to register the media.
Its always something simple that you don’t check first!!
