can anyone help have a problem with locators & rynabond

I understand that there is a silicone residue on the locators that stops them sticking in the mould. Basically you need to roughen it enough to remove this before applying you adhesive. They are a nylon and I would test a few different things as not all adhesives work. We use the same 3m glue as we use for trays but I’m not at work so can’t tell you which one, sorry!

I had similar concerns with a similar job recently.

I phoned Penloc and the chap there said the same thing about the studs having a mould release contaminant on ’em.

He suggested the same as Gavin.

Have a piece of sandpaper taped to the bench and rub the studs along it to roughen them up (do the same to areas they are to be stuck to on the backs of the letters).

Penloc also suggested penloc solo for fitting locators to dibond letters.
This is a one part adhesive that won’t give dimples or pull marks on the faces of the letters. These are especially bad on mirror chrome or high gloss letters and are caused by the heat from the chemical reaction from 2 part adhesives.(like araldite!)
Give penloc a call – I think it’s about 9 quid a tube and it’s good stuff.

Sorry I can’t quiet remember the exact conversation about that but I can tell you that I have never used glue myself, all my letters came with the locator’s already attached or if it was anything else I used VHB tape instead of glue.

Oh hold on, this is the glue that was used by the supplier which put the locator’s on for me. It was Indasol MA900 Structural adhesive. Sorry that’s all I know.

Yer, those pesky slimy locators :lol1: I had the same problem, but I had used sandpaper on both surfaces, used a two part adhesive, and yep they lasted a month, then tried Superglue, got another few weeks out of them. Ended up using 3m double sided tape and they have been there for over a year!

This is an absolute nightmare . . . . !!!

Thing is I have about 50 of these letters up, the biggest ones are the ones that have let go, am I to expect the rest to start dropping?? 🙁

Im also a bit scared of which product to use, as I REALLY dont want the things to fall again!!! 👿

you have to be careful which acrylic adhesive you choose, the heat some of them give off when curing can pass through the letter and dimple the face. I would test first and leave for 3-4 hours to see.
