can anyone give me more information on the cadet?
Posted by Gino on 6 April 2004 at 19:47Hi All
I went almost through all the post regarding the Cadet but still hungry for more info. The Versacamm is similar to the Cadet but uses Eco solvent ink compared to true solvent from the Cadet.
In my opinion I decided to go for the Cadet but still I have a couple of questions that needs answering, maybe you guys can help me.
I already have and Encad850 and needs laminating all the time. Do I have to laminate on the Cadet for normal signs boards (not vehicles).
I am aware that I have to laminate on vehicle graphics, but has anyone on the board did any wrapping with the Cadet especially when the print area is limited (70cm), How does it look like when wrapping with a couple of more overlaps compared to a wider machine.
Also what is the colour intensity output from this machine, will it minimize standard vinyl cutting especially when there is 2 or 3 layers of vinyl cuttingon the same sign.(I want to minimize labour work, is this the right move?)I appreciate all the help I can get.
Regards

well what can i say mate… we have just parted with £25 grand on our grenadeir and laminator etc.. is it the right move? well… i think yes!
as a company we have to move forward and digital printing etc is the way to do it.
i have looked at many options and even considered the versacamm but due to this and that moved to a true solvent machine. the cadet back then wasnt available so moved to the grenadeir, the fact it is much wider is a great help/added bonus.
in my honest opinion the cadet is the way to for this size of investment.
it does not need laminated for signs but like everyone will tell you, does for vehicles. (like any printer on the go today)
we have a good few members on the boards with cadets, so i am sure some will be able to help on your questions.if you do decide on the cadet, you may want to call adam booth @ B&P LIGHTBRIGADE, adam helped me with my setup and is a real nice guy.. mention i sent you & i am sure he will see you right.

Hi Robert
Thanks for your immediate reply. you answered most of my questions. and look forward to hear from Cadet owners too.
Must say that this board was the best discovery I had on the www.
Thanks again

Ok, the Cadet.
Superb.
Are you limited by the 70cm width for wraps? No way, a mate of mine has been doing wraps for years with his Edge (13″) whilst casting sneers in our direction. Oh the joy when our 30″ machine arrived…
We’re printing onto white vinyl, clear vinyl, banner stock, contravision etc. Colours, photos etc are superb, even compared to our Epson 9000.
No need to coat standard signage in our humble opinion. We’re quite happy to put a 3yr warranty on work, knowing that if anything untoward does happen – we can replace the print for peanuts.
Versus the Versacamm I have no idea. Allegedly the aggressive solvents in the Cadet give greater longevity and print to a wider range of substrates.

Hi
Can anyone tell me please if is it possible to print on Oracal and VWS media with the Cadet apart from Metamark.
Thanks
Gino -
yes you can print on vws & oracal. i have looked into both of these materials with the grenadeir, which is basicaly a bigger version of the cadet.
B & P will give you the profiles for these materials once purchasing the machine. if they dont have “which im sure they will” the oracal profiles i can get them for you as i am being sent them from europoint display who is the main source for oracal vinyl in the UK. 😉 -
just had a look at the cadet rob, nice bit of kit,
how much are they! they look like the versacamm,
they say no lamination needed, what do you think!
what will it do that the versa cant, eddie -
hi eddie
the cadet is a versacamm but has modified heads and some other bits and peices. it basicaly is the same machine but runs different ink. the versacamm is eco solvent ink and the cadet true solvent ink.
both are the same price i think..
the true solvent ink is smellier and you would have to have a small extractor fan fitted on a window pain or in the wall. this basicaly rids the room its in of any smell of solvent.
solvent inks are far more agressive than eco-solvent inks. they basicaly bite into the surface of the vinyl were the eco-solvent inks sit on the surface.
the machine we have purchased (but havent taken possesion yet) is the same machine as cadet but 54inch wide & prints faster.
i dont know about the quality of the versacamm prints you got sent. obviously not as crisp as you wished but as far as i know the quality should be far better than that of the dge. its about 1400dpi i think and i think the edge is 300dpi 😕 inks are far cheaper than thermal ribbons so even if you print at high quality the ink should be still, far cheaper than the ribbons.
dont get me wrong, the edge is a great machine and has hundreds if not thousands of users worldwide. but in my opinion, it is very limited.
i know you want to print stickers for existing customers but buying something like the versacamm and the cadet will open up so many more doors for you.
it maybe just me, but when i looked into buying an edge i felt it had more labour input than most machines.
lets say you print 10 small stickers.
you load the vinyl then the first ribbon & print the ten stickers.
then take the ribbon out and print the next colour,
then take that out and load the next
then for the 4th time take that out and load the next colour.
once this is done you remove the vinyl and put it into another machine and manualy setup to contour cut the graphics just printed.
seems a bit of a pain to me..
having said that, the edge does have white ribbons for reverse printing..
but should that make your mind up on such an expensive bit of kit? 😕 -
thanks a million rob, for a very interesting reply, the smell wouldnt bother me, as i live near a pig farm anyway 😀 😀 😀 , i suppose i could sub out the window stickers, does it run from signlab?.
the edge does seem like a bit of work now that you say it,
why have i never heard of the cadet before, & the roland is plasterd all over the place? eddie -
the cadet has only recently been launched mate.
the smell thing is more the solvent smell.. long term use affects etc
same as screen printers i would imagine. niffy work shop with many glazed eyes 😆if your interested in the cadet mate let me know and ill give you some details of the guy im buying my machine from. your a uksg member and b&p are sorting out a proposal for members that buy from them. so maybe in your best interest.
the cadet is the exact same machine as the versacamm but uses different ink. so you have the option.
again on the dge. it is a proven money making machine, but i honestly think the versacamm or the cadet is the better move for any sign business. but i feel, if you buy the cadet. you have an edge over the versacamm.
am i just saying this too steer you away from and edge or versacamm, well our company is investing 25 grand on our new machine setup so i think im putting our money were my mouth is. 😆 😆
