  • can anyone dvise on versacamm cutting problem please?

    Hi Guys.

Had my new Versacamm just over a week now and I am well chuffed with the quality. The only small problem I have is with cutting. I am printing onto vinyl, then laminating it. In total it is about 450 microns thick. I have got different blades in it, and it is cutting deep enough now. The only problem is it seems to cut upto 3mm out. When I’m doing decals it leaves a 3mm gap at the top and cuts into the decal by 3mm at the bottom. Where should I start? Was going to start with the speed of the machine?

    Any help appriciated.

    Thanks
    Paul

I had done a test cut when I first tried it to get the depth right. Got that right for depth but printed a few meters worth off and the cut was out.

Do I have to do test cut before every cut?

    hi
if the versa has a environment check do this first.

as its a new machine it should have been set correctly when installed.
if you print and cut in one operation is it satisfactory.
if you print laminate then reload is then 3mm out.
there are two different settings or calibrations .
print head to cut adjustments and test calibration in main menu.
cut head to alignment dots adjustment is in the service menu.

all tests must be done on white vinyl

    Thanks Chris

The guy set everything up and we did one decal and it cut perfect. Just when he went and I printed a couple of meters it was this far out. Didn’t want to touch the settings as he said I shouldn’t have to touch them and I don’t have a clue! 🙂

Sorry chris. Yes it was. Printed, laminate then cut. Do you think speed may play a part in it being out?

they can go out now and again.
to check before ringing your suppliers because the laminated thickness you quoted seems high.
set up a small file 25mm square black with a cutpath.

print and cut this out about 6 across the plotter these should cut correctly.
print again with reg marks no cut
reload and auto aligh to marks. then send cut path.
if this is ok then its strugeling with the laminate if out proberbly needs adjustment

further speed should be around 300 450 normal for very thick or hard laminate and when the cut pressure is above 200 slow it down to 200 and use all the pinch rollers,
i normally only prrit and cut over a 4 ft length for multiples of stickers.

I had loads of problems when I first starting cutting with the versacamm. I’ve found that the only way to get good results is to do an ‘auoto’ print and cut calibration before cutting. This prints a black square and then reads its location. I do this on almost every cut job, it’s the only way I can get the machine to cut correctly.

    Hi guys.

Thanks for the help. Slowed the machine right down and it seems to be much better now. Will let you know how it goes tomorrow when I print customers work off.

    Thanks again
